Gangs of New York

This looks really good on the trailors and i love Scorcese films.

Has anyone out there seen it yet? Is it good?

p.s I saw Two Towers yesterday and it kicked arse!

I saw it and thought it was good. The next day I read an article in the paper about how New York was even MORE violent than was depicted in the film.

I've heard mixed reviews--I heard that it was too long and that the acting wasn't so great. I heard that it's good historically, though.

The acting not so great? Even with Daniel Day Lewis in it?

That man has some acting chops!

I didn't notice the length. Yes, Daniel Day Lewis was terrific! I enjoyed the movie. Leonardo Di Caprio didn't annoy me nearly as much as he could have. Cameron Diaz was simply out of place.

It's interesting to place Gangs of New York in the context of Scorcese's other films about gangs and such from different eras (Goodfellas, Mean Streets etc.) As if this was a film about origins...

Yes, he's a good actor, but I'm still mad at him for leaving Isabella Adjani when she was in her 9th month of pregnancy, to go to a monastery! mad

I'd say Daniel Day Lewis totally kicked ass. Amazing performance.

But, it was a difficult movie for me to sit through. I don't know what's happened to me, but I just can't take violent movies anymore. It was very well done, but just too much for me to take. I spent the majority of the movie peeking through my hands...

I was a big fan of that movie. Daniel was excellent.

However, the other people I know who saw it have been split straght down the middle. Half didn't like it, the other half loved it.

It's a little like Fight Club in that sense. There are few in the world who would say "It's ok". It's one or the other.
