anyone heard of Guillain-Barr Syndrome? Wednesday my nephew was complaining that his legs were hurting, by thursday he was collapsing and we thought it was growing pains. He would be fine second and boom he'd just fall down, then get back up and start playing again. Friday evening he couldn't even stand on his own so we took him to the ER in my hometown (very small town less then 2000 people we were there for the holidays). We thought he was dehydrated but his electrolytes came back normal...so We took off back home sat and by that evening the ER here in San Antonio did a full work up from CT Scan to Spinal Tap..revealing he had contracted Guillain-Barr Syndrome from a flu shot he had received Monday.

My kid had symptoms similar, not long ago, and doc ruled that out, it was not acute like you describe. Frightening!  | |

Yeah, it's pretty bad. The Dr. had him squat down and try to stand up and he couldn't even do it. He was pulling at the bed trying to pick himself up and it was just the saddest thing in the world to see him so helpless..
He's 8 years old...just a lil guy. I feel so bad for him. | |

I know what it is...I just wanted to see if anyone had first hand experience with it. Recovery and what not...From what I read it can get pretty bad and up to a year to recover...geeze | |

wow,,,,thats too bad.
I just read in our local paper it happened to one girl after getting the h1n1 shot...guess its more comman then they are letting on! i dont know much about it either...but i hope your wee guy recovers fast. | |
