i was taught not to waste. Even though I'm very aware, i still waste too much. I think as an American it just happens. That loaf of bread that get stale or the unused fruit it's just sickening.

I wish more restaurants had size choices. Often you just get way too much food.
Imagine how fat we'd be if we didn't waste food, though! My Legacy

Imagine how fat we'd be if we didn't waste food, though! True. But it's very hard to waste when most of the world has little food & water.

I'm big on not wasting food.
Lately, I've taken to freezing tomatoes before they go back. I pull them out later for chili, spaghetti sauce, etc. I freeze bananas before they go bad. I peel the banana, break it into a couple of pieces and freeze them. It's great for banana bread later, or a smoothie (instead of using ice, why not freeze the fruit to thicken it up? ....it doesn't dilute when it melts down a bit like ice can.) I also freeze old hot dog buns or hamburger buns. I use them for bread crumbs later, or even home made croutons. When we buy one of the roaster chickens from the deli at the store, I freeze the left over carcasses (which almost always has meat on it). When I get about 5 or so, I'll put them in a big pot w/ onion, celery, tarragon, and other veggies/herb, and make up my own chicken broth. I freeze that in 2 qt containers for soup or whatever later on. There's nothing like a good stew w/ homemade broth. I save & freeze those little bits of veggies left over from a meal too (like corn, peas, etc.....all good for a veggie stew later on). That last spoon of corn or beans in a bowl that hasn't been touched...perfect to freeze for later. Of course we're big on recycling too. ANYTHING plastic, metal, or glass goes into the recycle bin. It's amazing how much less garbage you have from doing that.
