H1N1 vaccine

Are you or have you got the vaccine for the Swine flu?
One of my co-workers got the h1n1 and died.
She seemed to be in pretty good physical shape... A 40'ish energetic nurse working in a hospital on a pretty busy floor. She evidently got sick last week and tried to treat her illness herself with over the counter medications (like
many health care pros do) until she realized that this was no ordinary cold/flu and went to doctor who admitted her to hospital. There she eventually got "coded" 3 times was put on a vent and died!
We are all shocked and now I am scared. I was not going to get the vaccine but now sm reconsidering it.

sad Very sad to hear that.

I haven't had the vaccine. I'm more concerned with other potential dangers, to be honest. I'm trying to find out from my records back home if I need any boosters as it's been about 10 years since I got them done before coming out to Thailand. I may get the H1N1 if I go for others. Doesn't seem to be much about the swine flu in the news here at the moment though. I don't personally know anybody who's had the vaccine.
MY COUSIN WORKS IN A PHARMACY AND SHE SAID THEY ENEMA'D PRANCE INTO OBLIVION WITH FENTONILS!!

They aren't playing with the distribution. There simply isn't enough of it to go around - and they're trying to give it to the people who are at greatest risk first.

This might have been avoided (in the US, at least) had the government not fucked up production by insisting that the virus be distributed in individual, non-thimerosal-preserved doses (rather than the regularly-preserved, multi-dose vials). This was a total cave to the anti-vaccine wackos - and a lot of people who might have avoided the flu have gotten sick as a result.

that's what I'm saying-just not in your way wink What's up with the manufacturing and distribution? By the time it gets to those who need it-it will be to late as usual eek

I got my vaccine over 2 weeks ago from my doctor.
It wasn't hard to get, and i felt and feel fine.

If that influences you one way or the other.
I normally don't get a flu shot, but i have asthma and didn't want to play with this one.

Thanks everyone. I think I am just going to close my eyes and jump into the lake in other words I am going to get the vaccine and hope for the best. I can 't stop thinking that poor Marge was fully expecting to be here on this Thanksgiving only to die suddenly the day before the holiday. I have a little girl who is counting on me to make the right choice. sad

I've not had the vaccine. However, I've been sick for 11 days now, with a fever up to 105. The fever is gone, but I have trouble breathing for the past few days. It literally hurts to inhale deeply, and the cough is still in my chest. This is the worst sick season ever. I rarely, if ever, get sick. I've NEVER been THIS sick, or sick for this long. I'm going mental lately. It's really making me nuts. I just cannot function. I have no idea if it's an H1N1 thing or not. My taste buds have been lacquered over, and I have no appetite.

Sorry about your friend. We have just over 20 H1N1 deaths in this area, to my knowledge. It's some scary shit out there.

There is a report out in the last couple of days saying that a lot of people who get the H1N1 vaccine are getting sick from the vaccine itself. I never had the energy to read more on it. Just be careful.

Please don't tough it out... This 2009 we have remedies for this. We don't have to "tough it out. From your description of symptoms it sounds like you may have pneumonia. Not trying to alarm you but this is what is killing people. The swine flu is a double whammy. The flu and bacterial infection together. The flu gets treated and the bacterial infection goes unchecked and turns to pneumonia. Please don't wait too late . You can only live a few minutes without oxygen .... It is THAT important!
Please see a doctor go to the ER. My coworker went to ER and she ended up on a vent. She waited too late!

sorry for your loss prodigal rose

ernestsewell, i dont know about where you live, but here most over the counter medication say "if symptoms persist, see a dr.

A fever over 105 isnt good...11 days sick is a long time, especially with breathing difficulties.. please see a Dr.

ive had my H1N1 vaccination...no side effects.
Nurses talked me thru the procedure and answered all my concerns.
My main worry was the vials werent one dose like normal flu vacc, but once they explained all the safety procedures they were following...i was fine with it.

And i trust these nurses, they have been giving me a weekly injection for nearly 4 years.
seems that i was busy doing something close to nothing, but different than the day before music beret

This is what makes me feel ambivalent about getting the shot because just about every doctor I work with was not planning on getting vaccine. Now since this nurse's death several are planning to take the shot. Like myself the doctors were reluctant because the vaccines were formulated so quickly there were some who wondered if adequate testing was done to safety.
