I remember playing county stuff and I wasn't too bad at that level but looking back our coaching, especially at school, was so poor. We mainly ran around like headless chickens, which meant any of our guys with any decent skills were rendered useless against even mediocre players from 'posh' schools who were taught properly. When I was around 15 or 16 I knew some guys who played for Great Britain and I never thought they were any better than me, just had had better coaching and were more professional about it. Still, I think in general Brits are a bit soft at basketball. I know I certainly was, although basketball occasionally brought out this rare, odd petulant and aggressive side to me. Totally against character but I got thrown out of 2 games, totally inexplicably. Maybe I needed to find that side to me more and channel it properly.
