What happened... were there some tainted turkey's out there or something?

My answer to your question, simply, the stress of expectation.

That you have to give presents...that you have to go to family gatherings...that you have to go to those stupid office parties...that you have to get the RIGHT gift...

And on top of that, you have to set large amounts of time and money to fullfil what is expected of you during Christmas.

No wonder there's all this cheery music, so you can be forced to bear it and force a smile on your face!

But I love the holidays, just that you have to identify that in reality, it's just a lot of things you have to do or are expected to do to make others happy.

But of course that is if you want to. But then again...they call you a Scrooge...that's when you start gettin' pissy. It's manipulative in a way...strange.

Haven't you ever felt that relief when January 2nd or 3rd comes around?

That could very well be it. I've just never seen anything like it.

It certainly IS about change, my changeling buddy.

There it is!

I tried to take this one to orgnotes but, predictably, you won't reply. biggrin

As you can see by now I did reply, although I don't know what difference it makes, since as you are famous for saying people have the right to respond or not as they see fit. Or is that only you?

IceNine replied:

You absolutely have the right to respond as you see fit, but I found it amusing that you ignored my orgnote yesterday and took your time on the one today. It is also funny that you only got in on this topic after a certain other person got into a play fight with me.

IceNine:
There has certainly been a change and I am not the one who has done it... I post EXACTLY as I always have and there are some, you included, who have decided that it is not okay anymore. I find it very amusing and I find it very hypocritical of you to act like you haven't changed.

2the9s
I've changed, I haven't changed, who cares? What business it of yours? Why does this affect you? I am no longer interested in your Fam obsession. Not that I ever was. Why do you care? I'd rather change than cling to some tired principles of Fam-hating nonsense. I don't think I've changed anyway, whatever... We're not always the best judges of whether wehave changed or the effect that we have on others...

IceNine replied:

It becomes my business when you start trying to mess with me about being exactly how I have always been. You totally and completely missed the point of the "fam" stuff, but that is not really surprising.

IceNine
I don't care if anyone agrees with me at all... in fact, I try to post things where people are certain to disagree with me most of the time because it is fun to do.

2the9s
Fun for you. Not for most. And obviously I am not the only one who feels that way. Just the only one who makes it public. Maybe that's becauseof the way you browbeat people?I noticed you said you wanted to take it to orgnote, but you object when other people do that. What's it gonna be?

IceNine replied:

There are a few people other than you who are trying to be all about change. AND... I NEVER object to people taking things to orgnotes, nor have I ever said that it was a bad thing to do... why don't you manufacture some more information, maybe you can get a job at the Bild or whatever it is in Germany.

IceNine
I have not changed that in ANY way, yet people who were cool with it in the past seem to have a problem with it since the org blackout. I find this funny and I find it very funny that you are on the front-lines of defending the changelings.

2the9s
Oh great, "changeling," you've introduced another term that will get tired soon. rolleyes I was never cool or not cool with you. Stuff I didn't like I ignored. Now it's getting tired. I've always had a low threshold for tripe. People's opinions change all the time, so what? You make this sound like a bad thing.

IceNine replied:

If you have a low threshold for tripe, you must be sick of yourself most of the time. Change is fine, as long as you don't let your change dictate your trying to change someone else who has not changed and does not want to change.

IceNine
This wouldn't have to be on the forums if you would reply to orgnotes, but that is a bit hard to do sometimes.

2the9s
Either way. Maybe more people would like to see/participate in this topic?

IceNine
Yeah, please... participate, people.

I think another reason why people become pissy is when they realize they have to get back to their same dull routine everyday after being off from work a couple of weeks. Some people set their expectations high during the holidays, and when their expectations isn't met, they become pissed and angry. I think that some people actually hate being aroud their family during the holidays, and in most cases, I can see why.

If the Org was always nice and people would always make sure no one is offended, it would be the most boring place and you would all be posting elsewhere. There's no honesty in relationships that preclude friction.

That being said, there are degrees, and yes things can be overdone and a point overstated. Just one look at Icenine's post count tells you this guy does nothing halfway. He's been taken to task and I think that's fair, because at least it's not passive "done me wrong" behavior. Just remember that the reason you are allowed to take him to task is the same reason he was allowed to post this stuff.

So the system is working. Let's not emasculate the Org for so little. There's a ban on personal attacks and comments that are racist or whatnot. That's quite sufficient. Some people would like the Org moderation to be extended to such things as making fun of "fams" and "naysayers" and so much more -- trust me, I know. At the same time, others who have blatantly broken every rule have not been criticized by said upholders of nice manners, but instead defended because they are either sweet, young or just very emotional and some wished to spare them the aftershocks of what they had started.

The way it works here is very simple. You don't like a certain behavior? REPORT it.. Then the moderator decides if the person must be warned or not. If the person is warned, but does not change its ways, this person is kicked out. If you don't care to report it and choose to say something in a post, that is fine too, but it can blossom into a personal attack as well. So be careful out there, because you might find yourself engaging in what you deplore.

I think Ian's moderation has been great. He seems to understand that we're adults despite all appearances of the contrary and he intervenes when it's relevant. People who are not satisfied can talk to him -- I'm sure if your case is convincing, he will act. People are not defenseless.
