When you look in the mirror what do you see?

I see a girl, 18 years old who had to endure ridicule as a kid from other kids even adults. A girl who thought she was "white" because of the way she talked and looked. A high-yellow girl, who had self-identity issues at a young age, a girl, who had to put up with her mother and the bad choices her mother made and the stupid boyfriends she had.I see a girl who at the age of 3/4 thought she was a boy and wored boy's clothes. A girl whose father was barely there but does want to be in her life but he apparently doesn't know what to do now that he has remarried and has step-kids. I see a girl who wonders why she's black but doesn't feel like she belongs. I see a girl who was verbally and mentally abused and wished that everyone would just die. I see a girl that people think she's a quiet, sarcastic bitch but in actuality is a hurt soul who just needs help. I see a girl, who is 8 years old with her grandfather, watching him suffer in a hospital and later died. I see a girl who at one point wanted to kill herself. I see this girl and think 'what the hell is wrong with you?' You look crazy, you're a nerd, you can barely see without your glasses you're ugly and you're fat. I laugh because I use to think that what I really was but I know I'm not, I only thought that because people told me I was but I was I'm a bright, beautiful girl who is now in college and is trying to make something of her life. I see me. I'm cool I'm great and now that I'm older I don't care what people think and I know what I expect from myself. biggrin

Just a random thought. And yes I take this seriously. sad

Keep your head up, take all you can learn and all the wisdom from those experiences, and be glad that you managed to stay sane.Don´t let other people tell you what´s "black" and what´s "white". Be strong. And be grateful for still being so young in these exciting times we´re all going through.
And drop me a line when you feel really bad. And put on some Nas music when you have the blues.

I´m fine. Just a bit bored these days and suffering from lack of sunshine (it´s November, duh!) ...and lamenting the death of HipHop and good music and good friendships in general...but all in all, I´m very energetic and full of passion. lol

Well, that's kind of the point of this thread. lol We as humans are never satified by how we look and how we live. That's why I wrote this. However, at one point in your life you have to learn to accept yourself. That's what I did. biggrin

Why not?

many reasons i'm currently working on in therapy. i have a general negative self image and view myself as a bad person and kinda unattractive.

though i have a weird connection with how i view myself and how others view me because i know i can go home with any guy in the bar that i want, i still think of myself as unattractive.

hmmm You see all those horrible things and yet something quite beautiful at the end. Please clarify for me: Is this a "glass half empty" or "glass half full" sort of thing for you these days?

On the one hand, I'd make the friendly suggestion you may need to do a LOT of forgiving (including, perhaps, of yourself). On the other hand, it seems possibly that you're currently doing this.

Please flesh this out for dummies like me.

Ahhh. Well that I applaud as a great step. It's sometimes not an easy place to land.

I think a lot of people see themselves younger than they really are.
