IMO you'd be mistaken. Maybe the whitebread, middle-America crowd of straight women wouldn't, but millions of straight women LOVE watching two or more guys get their freak on. You never wondered why tv shows like Queer As Folk had a mostly straight female audience, or why so much manga/anime aimed at young women has gay male love stories? Or for that matter, why "slash' fan fiction, a genre largely written by hetero women, exists?

Answer: for the man lovin'.

I'm sure you're right, but maybe I should have simply said I believe a greater number of straight men like to see women kiss than straight women like to see men kiss. that's why we see more of women kissing than men in mainstream media (which is mainstream because it's the biggest numbers)
[Edited 11/23/09 16:20pm]

You'd be right there. IMO the only reason a lot of women don't think of two men together as sexy is because it never occurs to them to think that way, and it never occurs to them to think that way because it's incredibly rare for mainstream media to portray gay men as sexual at all.

Straight women are, for the most part, used to seeing the neuters on shows like Will & Grace, and Queer Eye. Teh gheys are the sexless shopping buddy. It's a shock when anything is done that hints gay men might like to have sex with men.

Remember the big media kerfuffle about Ledger and Gyllenhaal gayin' it up for Brokeback? And isn't there like 3 times more straight sex in that movie? lol

I made some points on my blog today about it. I'll cut and paste it here:
-----
1. Whether you like him or not, or want to bash him, or praise him, the fact is (whether you admit it or not), you're talking about him today, and THAT is called good publicity. Last night people were saying, "Who is this guy?" Um....darling, he's the guy you're still talking about today. BAM!

2. ABC is hypocritical in advertising as "Coming up later, a performance by Adam Lambert that you'll be talking about tomorrow!", then bash him for doing what he did, and editing the performance for the west coast! HYPOCRITE!

3. If parents are worried about their children seeing Lambert grind his crotch into a guy's face, or him kissing another guy for 3 seconds, GET YOUR STINKIN' KIDS TO BED. WHY ARE THEY UP AT 11 P.M. ANYWAY???? It's not the networks' job to edit for your children, or catch up to the fact that parents let their kids stay up later. Don't like it? Don't watch it. Put your monsters to bed at 9 like most parents do, and STFU. PS It's those same soccer moms and dads in suburbia that are hiding their little prescription drug problems, alcohol problems, eating disorders, and extra-marital affairs, all while pretending you're the perfect family. HYPOCRITE!

4. Elisabitch Hasselbeck, on The View today, said that this type of stuff is what Adam Lambert is going to be remembered for, not his music. "What song did he sing? What did his voice sound like? I don't remember." Yeah well you still think Iraq had something to do with 9/11, and that Obama is a Muslim, and a socialist. He sang the title track from his new CD, "For Your Entertainment", and his voice is the same high tenor voice that we knew him for on American Idol, reminding us of Freddy Mercury, a bit. The same voice YOU, Ms. Hypocritical Hasselbeck, talked about and raved about on The View every Wednesday and Thursday after the previous night's airing of American Idol. And NOW you want to act like he's some alien? HYPOCRITE!

5. Madonna made out with Christina and Britney, and it was never edited in later broadcasts. Women have been feeling up on each other and making out on TV for years, but when a gay guy does it, it's suddenly "inappropriate". HYPOCRITE ABC! The View was allowed to show the Madonna thing, but were not allowed to show the Lambert thing. WHY? Because it's a guy? How disgusting of ABC to discriminate based on sexuality. Of course ABC, being a Disney company, doesn't like Jews either, so why not throw faggots in the mix as well?

6. At the end of it all, Adam Lambert is who he is, and he's not ashamed of that, nor does he (or should he) apologize for it. No, you don't have to buy his CD, or watch his videos. But you know what? If you're going to fight for your right to marry your boyfriend, or lesbian girlfriend, and you want equal rights for everyone, that includes me, you, and Adam Lambert.

Adam Lambert is doing his thing. I loved that he did what he did. I love to see the brass at a network, and the soccer moms across the US, get their Hanes in a twist over something like this. I love when someone doesn't push the envelope, but flat out burns it with a big fucking flaming torch, and does it on national TV in front of millions of people. More power to him.

It was pure shock value whoring. Desperate to a lot yes but fuck it, I thought it was cheap and awesome to see a dude's face in his crotch. It's about time.

In the AMA thread, you said he had balls to do that, I thought

1:52 and 4:17. And she didn't even have to pull him. smile

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

But what he did and what Madonna loves to do are basically without substance, they are just "provocative for its own sake."

Madonna uses crosses to seem deep, but it's all flash. I feel the same about Adam. His singing is good, technically, but I hate his style, and there doesn't seem to be anything behind it.

I think the most offensive thing about his performance was how crappy that song is.

I mean, Lambert was simulating sucking, but that song sucks for real.

I think the whole performance and song was horrendous and utterly disgusting. Sure we've seen these type of antics before, but I do remember the music being a bit better so it didn't seem as bad. But if Janet had to overcome fire from a covered up titty popping out, then surely this Adam Lambert person can take the heat for a couple of weeks about his awful performance.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

In my experience, most women have a problem when it's their man getting his freak on with another guy. Unlike many men which would love to see their gf with another woman.
