I'm just curious. true true while elvis is not an exactly common name , there are still alot out there , I have met 4 or 5 in the last few years madonna is less common I admit but if their goal is - to quote Anotherlover2 "In my opinion, naming is more cultural than racial. And many, many people are looking outside of their own culture for unique, meaninful names for their children." Well madonna is unique and certainly meaningful religious wise - so why isnt it a more common name among black people ?

I don't know, why isn't it more common among white people? And just because it is religious doesn't mean it has to be a name used among black people. I don't know that many black people named Jesus or Snake. [This message was edited Sat Jan 11 22:13:10 PST 2003 by 4LOVE]

Sorry guy, your theory of certain names being black or being white in orgin just isn't true. I have a good friend by the name of Scott, and guess what he is black.

and you are telling me Scott is a popular name for black people ? IF you bothered to read the entire thread you would see that of course there are exceptions. and it's not a theory, it is a fact. [This message was edited Sat Jan 11 23:40:35 PST 2003 by justanotherasshole]

I hate to say it but your name suits you well.
Fact: A real occurrence, an event. Something having real, demonstrable existence. Theory: Abstract reasoning, speculation. A belief that guides action or assist comprehension or judgment. Both definitions are from the American Heritage dictionary. You are SPECULATING about names and therefore it is theory, NOT a fact. Anyways what do you know about black people and their names, you said you only met 10 or fewer black people in your lifetime. I did read the entire thread.

Of course there are jewish (Sarah, Rachel, Milhouse?..) and arabs (Mohamed, Samira...), irish, spanish etc, well let's say ethnics, specific names I can't imagine a jewish guy called "Adolph" , well I can't imagine no one called Adolph now, unless his parents are in the 3rd Reich fan club or unaware and no, I don't find this thread racist or offensive [This message was edited Sun Jan 12 1:18:38 PST 2003 by jnoel]

his only experience with black people is through the movie "don't be a mencace to south central..."... so now he thinks that all black people are names Ashtray, Loc Dogg, Dashiki, Doo Rag, and whatnot... Mr. Ellis Dee-licious, the Official NPGigolo

instead of actually answering the question - just act like a bunch of pricks yep thats the way it is here on the org. I was asking of you could think of any race specific names. but instead picking apart my words is more important to you. obviously you lot are incapable of any intelligent discussions Nah...we just corrected your dumb ass, that's all...now thank us and be polite... 8) Slap!

"It's just that everytime I see a black name on here it is is so obviously black." like Tyr... Kei...kyr... and not just on the org, on the interent in general, on tv shows, movies, everywhere I have the chance to look ... I always see the same names you cannot tell me Tyrone, Malik, and Jamal are not specifically 'black names' - or you could lie. Scott, Ryan, and Geoff are what I would call white names. Sure you can find a black of Latino with one of these names but they aren't common by any standard. There are common names in races, any race. There are specific names for race, even by country. "Everytime"..."so obviously"..."everywhere"..."always"..."common". That's the problem, right there in a nutshell. Kaboom!

I am talking about race specific names. I can honestly say I have never met a white person called Tyree, Tyrese or Tyrone . I have never met a black man named Percy or Gordon or Frank. I find this intriguing If you find this racist YOU are the one who has some problems. It is a fact of the world. There ARE definitely race specific names. I hardly think someone discussing them should be accused of being racist, that is just stupid. Can YOU think of any race specific names ? Wasn't Gordon the black bald man on Sesame Street??? yes

Yes, I can. But any of them would hurt the feelings of the people who they "represent".

funny thing is most all names are of a European derivitive (sp I KNOW) so its ABSOLUTly idiotic to assume that because you dont hear a certain name associated with a certain race that theor arent others of a different race with the same name...YOU should know AS most women DO know that names go in and out like fads/trends so because one group ofg people find a name fashionable and another find a different fashionable at a spesific time...look back into thistory...you see the names very commen among EVERY ONE!
