ernest, your trees were beautiful!
I can't do purple because I think it would clash with the burgundy carpeting and furniture... Both trees were stunning! "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

Ok, so normally I don't really decorate until Thanksgiving weekend. However, this year I'm hosting a par-tay on the 5th, for which I will be cooking (and I'm sure obsessively cleaning) the week before. So I started yesterday. One tree down, 2 to go. This tree is in our living room: I spent this morning cleaning feathers, as at the last minute I decided to cut up a feather boa and stick the pieces into the tree. THANK GAWD I had a feather boa laying around. thats awesome, the black and white looks so good together and it looks very modern.

I added a few more things...
I forgot to take a picture of the beautiful Poinsettias I bought. But here are two more: 1) The front hallway... (The right one says "Shoe Girl" ) 2) The view into the dining room... (I had a hard time with lighting for this pic! ) "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

Never would I have thought of the black, white, gold color combination for decorating a tree, but your pics belong in an upscale magazine. I love the Marilyn Monroe drawing as well...any chance that German artist would draw one of Prince? No kidding. I'd invest in a tasteful drawing of P that would bring me joy at my age, but would be sold in the future to benefit the care of my son. Orgnote me when you have time. Hope your party is everything you hope for and more! Happy Holidays

ernestsewell said: I have a new amber/gold tree to put up this year, but here are the two trees from last year. Yes, I put up two trees!
The living room was still a bit messy, as I was still unpacking misc knick knacks. The Red and Gold Tree. On the buffet, a red rose tree w/ red light. A 2' fibre optic tree I found that doesn't work. I put all green on it with some frosted blue mini balls. The purple and gold tree. You can spot one ornament in the middle that looks blurry. It's on a spinner. I hated that tree topper and took it down right after I took that pic. Both trees have an ornament on a spinner in the middle (my roommate's dad makes these really ornate ornaments each year). Both trees ahve white lights. I use about 100 lights per foot of tree. I average 500 per tree. I wrap one 100 strand (doubled up) just on the spine of the tree, to have plenty of light from inside the tree. This is in my roommate's office at his work. That's actually a computer monitor, hooked to a laptop, playing a fireplace DVD on repeat all day. The brick is just a pattern printed out online, on the color laser printer at his work. One year, we did a similar "fireplace" in the patio door, facing outward. It was rather eye catching next to the tree. We live right on the main road of the complex, so it's (a bit too) easy to see into our apartment from outside. But we figured we'd give them something to look at. [Edited 11/25/09 21:03pm] Ernest the purple and gold is sooo me. I love it! My son would have a fit if I tried to change the traditional way we decorate our tree. Happy Holidays!

I will also ask Ron's sis (it was a gift from her many years ago, I had it re framed for him a few years back) if she remembers any info on the artist.
