I didn't think much of my name growing up. When I was about 22, I had called a lawyer in regards to changing my name. I was on a huge fall out w/ my family, and just wanted no part of any of them anymore. At all. I knew what I wanted to change it to.
It was in my later 20's, and in my 30's that I started to see it differently. I always liked having "IV" on the end of my name. There's some Jr., and even a few III's in the world, but few IV's that I've found. (My roommate's boss is a IV.) I remember a lady at a store telling me, "Your name looks good on paper." I thought to myself, "You know.....she's right. It does look good on paper!" I started to embrace it more after that. I also found out quite a few years ago that the L really wasn't a middle initial, but rather just a letter, like Harry S Truman. When written correctly, you'll never see a period after the S. My parents gave me a middle name, but that was based on my grandfather's name. However, my great grandfather didn't have a middle initial at birth, but later gave himself the middle initial L. So if I'm the IV, then I'd have to be named after him, not my grandfather, who had a middle name. So it's Ernest L Sewell, IV, not Ernest L. Sewell, IV (with a period). I dig that even more.

I hate when people say, "Oh... my middle name is Lynn." My parents thought they were having a boy and didn't have a name for me. The doctor said, "I like Lynn", and they said, "OK". I like my middle name, tho. I wouldn't mind switching from Lynn Mariah to Mariah Lyn.

that sounds intriguing I googled it - since it sounds just like something I would love to read, but couldn't find the actual book only references to it in blogs and forums much like this one! "Turns out there is actually a term psychologists use called "The Jennifer Complex". It has to do with that phenomenon of the older guy dating the much younger girls… guys who date women young enough to be their daughters." "when my dad was still doing counseling he told me that (because of a book called "The Jennifer Complex" or something like that) counselors often refer to the other woman as "a Jennifer". nice."
