Grocery Store Wars

Big chain grocery stores here in my city are having:

1) Price wars; and

2) Altered business hours, etc.

I went to a local grocer today to buy ingredients for supper for tonight. They have a flier which advertises they are now open from 6 am to 12 midnight eek when their regular hours were from 8 am to 10 pm.

I'll have to check the fliers this week for good deals for my mighty dollar.

Here in Berkeley the only choice is Andronicos or Whole Foods--both not exactly cheap!

Most of the major grocers in my area are open 24 hours. They only close on holidays.

The co-ops and specialty stores usually have more limited hours but even some of the higher end grocers are open all the time.

Here Tesco kills everyone, sometimes selling below cost. 7-11 won't last long-term unless they do some serious price-cutting since even their angle of being so convenient and ubiquitous will be challenged if Tesco open more and more small Tesco Express stores.

The grocery stores in my are are at war, trying to get your thanksgiving day dinner business. In yesterday's mail, I received 8 grocery store fliers with all their sales. Everyone is trying to out deal each other. I love it!!
