Harpo President Confirms Oprah Ending Talk Show Run On Network TV Oprah Winfrey will announce on Friday that her popular daytime talk show, "The Oprah Winfrey Show," will end its run in 2011, Tim Bennett, the President of Harpo, announced in a letter released to ABC affiliates on Thursday.
"Tomorrow, Oprah will announce live on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' that she has decided to end what is arguably one of the most popular, influential and enduring programs in television history," he wrote in the letter, obtained by Access Hollywood. " The sun will set on the 'Oprah' show as its 25th season draws to a close on September 9, 2011." Bennett said he was sending out the letter to keep the affiliates from being surprised at tomorrow's announcement. "Before she speaks to her loyal viewers, we wanted to share her decision first with you - our valued partners for more than two decades," he wrote. And he urged the stations to "share this news this evening with your colleagues and viewers." "Oprah's personal comments about this on tomorrow's live show will mark a historic television moment that we will all be talking about for years to come," he added. Just a few weeks ago, a rep for Oprah said the TV queen planned to make an announcement by year's end about whether she was planning to make a leap from her current daytime talk show to her previously announced cable channel, the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). No details were available about the rumored move to OWN. Copyright 2009 by NBC Universal, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.

Oprah's doing the right thing. She's taken her show as far as it can go.Her recent shows are stale and predictable.Time to call it a day.
She probably wants to focus on other things, like directing and producing movies. [Edited 11/20/09 0:26am]

She's supposedly going to start a cable channel with the coolest acronym ever: OWN (meaning "Oprah Winfrey Network.") "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

I'm not sure why people are so surprised by this. Oprah had a little friend, a boy named Mattie who suffered from some condition and was wheelchair bound, and died a couple of years ago. Mattie wrote a book and was wise beyond his years. When Oprah said something about leaving her talk show, he said, "You should do 25 years. That's a good number." Oprah said, "You know what, I will. I'll go 25, then end it." That's exactly what she's doing. She's talked off and on for years about finally quitting the show, but once she promised Mattie to do 25, that's what she was going to do.
There's some deal she's got going w/ a cable network, that she is going to invest in and take over...I think. I forget which channel. Like her or not, she's had a huge effect on television, people's live, and media in general.

I didn't even realize that the Oprah Winfrey show had been on TV for 25 years. That's a long time. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Oprah also was a co-founder of the Oxygen Channel (formerly known as OH!). Here is a little blurb that I just found online, in case anybody is interested: Oxygen is an American television channel with programming geared towards women, with a format similar to Lifetime. The privately held company Oxygen Media was founded in 1998 by Geraldine Laybourne, talk show host Oprah Winfrey and producers Marcy Carsey, Tom Werner and Caryn Mandabach (of Carsey-Werner fame). The company's cable channel Oxygen (formerly featuring Oh! above the main channel title), launched on February 2, 2000. http://en.wikipedia.org/w...V_channel) There are a couple of shows on the Oxygen Channel that I enjoy watching. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.
