Has anyone ever coloured their hair with coffee ?

how'd it work out ?

I haven't tried that before, but it seems like it would be a nice natural alternative to commercial hair colors!

I've died my hair with ultra-concentrated Kool-Aid before, and it actually worked. My hair had a nice orange tint to it for quite a while

I would think that Coffee might slightly tint hair - dunno really though

My friend used blueberries once - that worked

not my hair....a t-shirt. the smell lingers too. wonderful.

As a stylist, I can tell you the most it'd do is stain your hair, not change it chemically like hair color would. And when it washes out in a couple of days, it could be patchy, and you'd look like a calico.

There are hair styling places which use organic "natural" dyes in your hair. They might be able to recommend something along those lines.


Coffee (and tea) is sometimes used to stain bedsheets and curtains to 'natural' looking hues, so I would imagine if it can permanently stain those things, perhaps hair?

Please people stop the madness. I'm all for natural ingredients but Mach honey, you don't want to end up looking like you're handing out pamphlets at the wholefoods parking lot.

In the 1990s, I used to dye my hair all the time frequently. Then one day the dye burned severely burned my scalp and I had puss dripping from my scalp in multiple places. My head started swelling and I went to the emergency room and they gave me a shot to stop the swelling (apparently I was allergic to the something in the dye). My scalp continued to ooze puss for days and it took months for my scalp to heal and not be tender.

I waited about a year and a half and bought a different brand of dye and it did the exact same thing. I went to the emergency room again and got a shot. When it healed that time, I started using the temporary dyes that wash out in six to eight rinses. I did that for about a year or two with no problem. I got tired of the hassle so I stopped dying my hair completely. After about four years, I bought some "Just For Men" dye which was temporary dye also. I be damned if my scalp got burned again, started oozing puss, and I had to go to the emergency room again. Apparently, I must be allergic to all hair dyes whether they are permanent or temporary. I'm fine if I go to the hair salon and spend a lot of money to get my hair streaked either with the foil or the cap where they pull the hair through the holes and dye it because the dye never touches my scalp but that's too expensive.

Is there anything that you know of that I could use?

I wonder if you're allergic to the developer (which is a fancy word for peroxide, which most permanent colors have in them; it's what activates the color). However, it could be an ingredient in the color itself that you're reacting to. There are semi-permanent colors that don't really use a high volume of peroxide. I'd test the color in a place no one will notice, like behind the ear, or on the nape of your neck; see what happens and go from there. You might just have an allergy to something in the colors. I use Clairol from the beauty supply. I was certified w/ Clairol twice, as well as Logics, and Nexxus color. I loved color, so much more than doing perms. When I started hair about 17 years ago, there was so much new product coming out. Paul Mitchell had color shampoo. Nexxus would have color soon after. Clairol came out with new fruit scented high lift (bleach) agents. SO much new stuff to try! I loved it so much.

But do the spot testing next time. I'd rather be out a few bucks and know I'd break out, than take a chance like you have in the past and suffer.

It was Clairol that broke me out the first time. I know I'm allergic to the peroxide but when I bought the Just For Men temporary dye, I thought the box said it contained no peroxide. I can't remember. All I remember was reading the box very carefully before buying it.

I think I must be allergic to something else in the dyes in addition to the peroxide. I'm not taking a chance with any of them any more. When my hair gets too gray, I'll probably cut it all off and leave just enough to weave some hair in.

Well, I've got enough for the both of us. People tell me all the time...."Oh your hair looks so good, who streaked it for you"...Hell, it's natural.

If it keeps coming in this fast, I'm gonna end up looking like Blake Carrington. These no good men must be turning my hair gray. Maybe I'll go straight and get me a hooker.

By the way, ever tried using henna for your hair?It´s natural but some people are allergic against that, too. And the color it gives you is , in my opinion, a bit too dark (either jet black or reddish, and it makes your hair look a bit dry).

It might have said no peroxide, but it has to have some sort of developer in it. If it's all the same company, you're likely to have a reaction to any of their product. I think it is probably more of the color that you're allergic to, opposed to the peroxide.

Thankfully I don't have an issue, and I keep some Clairol from Sally's on my head about twice a year.

It´s a shampoo against MPB ( male pattern baldness ) but I doubt that it works. The hype when it first came out was quite big though. Now there are a lot of generic caffeine shampoos sold at drugstores, and much,much cheaper.People used to order this stuff for big money back in the day because it wasn´t available in the USA and they ordered dozens of bottles....but these days you don´t hear much about it.
