Welcome to the Big Apple!

I don't know specific gay bars, but Chelsea and The West Village (near Christopher Street) are known for being gay friendly neighborhoods.

I've read of Chelsea and have been been to West Village once, but ended up at the wrong bar (Eastern Bloc).

Definitely go to Chelsea. I work there and that neighborhood almost has more gay hangouts than straight ones.

Hi. smile

Just recently moved to New York and have been wondering if anyone on the Org knows the hot spots for gay folks in New York.

Have been to Wiiliamsburg (ill) and some of the East Village and wondering if there's anything I'm missing..

Don't have any "family" here yet, so I'm trying to see if there's some folks that know what's up. smile

Not to be specific, but looking for a more pueto-rican/black/african crowd then the places I have been -- Eastern Bloc, anyone neutral ?

Thanks in advance. lol And I apologize if this comes off awkward as hell. lol

I don't know about the situation now, but at the Chistopher Street area I saw quite a black/latino crowd. I left NY in 2004.
Anyhow, from a snobbish white Dutch gay - he lived at Wash Sq park in a fancy appartment- I understood that the Christopher Street area was indeed a more black/PR crowd. He himself went out a lot in Chelsea and I had a feeling that it was because the clubs were more upscale or something. But I repeat, I can't tell you this from my own experience.
Good Luck!

I don't hang out around Christopher Street much, but I'd tend to agree with this. I also think that's a popular area for drag queens and/or transgenders (is that the correct term?).

Yeah, I get the impression that Chelsea is more of a "see and be seen" scene.

Well, that would perfectly fit that Dutch guy, "see and be seen". It was a terrible snob. I also noticed that he kind of talked about those Chr.Str guys in a somewhat patronizing manner.

That was a good article! The way it was written was so visual, made me realise how much I miss the vibe of NYC.
I hope you'll find your way around. And if you come to Amsterdam, well, i can tell you a little more about the gay nightlife ; i'm not gay nor male, but my best friend is both and kind of a clubbing one. BTW, he went to NYC alone to and found his way to Fire Island and all. But I think he also hung around in Chelsea a lot.

I didn't even know about the pier. I meant the area right by the 1 subway stop and just to the west. Now that I read the article and think about it, I would say that the crowd by Christopher Street is probably a bit younger than the Chelsea scene.

If I'm not mistaken, there used to be a pretty popular black gay club called Two Potato near Christopher. I'm not sure what clubs are around there now.

I was going to suggest this and ask if it was still open and for the life of me could not remember the name.

So, ended up going to Mr. Black's this past weekend. 'Twas really fun; cool mix of fashionistas, hollerin' queens, fierce voguers, average dudes and some cuties of course! wink

Just wanted to thank everyone for all the suggestions.

There's so much left to take in and I'm super excited! woot! Can't wait! biggrin

It's on the Lower East Side. No sign or anything. Just a purple light in front of the door.

I gotta check out when I make to New York, of course it'll probably be gone by then.
