Gays in New York

Hi. smile

Just recently moved to New York and have been wondering if anyone on the Org knows the hot spots for gay folks in New York.

Have been to Wiiliamsburg (ill) and some of the East Village and wondering if there's anything I'm missing..

Don't have any "family" here yet, so I'm trying to see if there's some folks that know what's up. smile

Not to be specific, but looking for a more pueto-rican/black/african crowd then the places I have been -- Eastern Bloc, anyone neutral ?

Thanks in advance. lol And I apologize if this comes off awkward as hell. lol

Are you only looking for gay men to be friends with?
If you will, so will I

Welcome to the Big Apple!

I don't know specific gay bars, but Chelsea and The West Village (near Christopher Street) are known for being gay friendly neighborhoods.

Perhaps you can look for some GBLT organization to get involved with and meet people?

Sorry I can't be of more help - I'm a straight girl razz - but if you have other questions about NYC feel free to orgnote me. I've been here 6+ years.

I'm not a New Yorker, but if you're looking for a lively gay black/Latino crowd, I'd think you may want to try uptown (i.e. Harlem) and in the other buroughs.

Washington Heights has an interesting gay scene. You should try a club up there called No Parking.

OCASSIONAL??? Escuelita used to have a lot of shows. At least back in the day.
I think they also played latin music.

But that might all have changed, you know I'm a 90's queen. lol

And no, not only looking for gay men.. it's just that the roomates aren't very excited about going to gay bars/clubs. lol Live with a couple and their sister. We moved here together, and go out together, so I have only seen hipster Brooklyn and some places in the L.E.S.

I've read of Chelsea and have been been to West Village once, but ended up at the wrong bar (Eastern Bloc).

Perhaps you can look for some GBLT organization to get involved with and meet people?

I've been out in Harlem, but most of the places seem.. less than gay-friendly. lol But have only been here a month, so there's still plenty to explore. fallinluv

The funny thing is that I thought it would be.

There are a couple of places that have been really enjoyable (Hugs, Legion), but for the most part it's kind of jerky, or at least that's the impression.

If there's any places you could recommend, would love to know! smile

That is so weird, I went to New York for three days and found people in Williamsburg to be very friendly, I've made lots of friends.

Oh you should try partying on Sundays at the Greenhouse.
10-11pm open bar and then just crazy party with a mixed crowd of gays and whatnot. I think they have a bit of selection at the door.
The party I went to was really fun.

Well, I'm not the most sociable person when out, so that might have something to do with it. Learning to be less and less shy. smile

Will definetely check out Greenhouse. smile

Give Williamsburg a chance, it might seem standoffish but its just a make-believe. I've gotten free tours and a cd. A couple of weeks later firends I made in NY invited me to stay in Berlin with them. It was awesome too.
