I LOVE this movie: AN EDUCATION Don't you love when you have incredibly high expectations for a film and when you finally see it, it meets them all? 16-year-old Jenny (Carey Mulligan) is on a clear path to Oxford University in pre-Beatles London when she meets the much older and more worldly David (Peter Sarsgaard) who introduces her to an intoxicating new life of art, music and sex. David seduces not only Jenny, but her protective parents as well, much to the dismay of the teachers at Jenny's school who perceive Jenny's enlightenment as wasted potential. 3/4 (out of five) (Minus 1/4 for one act of inexplicable carelessness by the otherwise always clever and prepared David.)

Now that baseball season is over, I plan on seeing A LOT of films. Right up until the awards next year.

But I look at my 2009 movie list and I have only seen 15 movies ALL YEAR!!!! How will I ever make a top ten list out of that? Part of it is that I work for a theatre company now, and I've been seeing plays instead. And suddenly this year, I get that "lonely complex" creeping in, so I don't go to so many movies alone anymore. Weird. I miss the discipline of it.

That's how I see most new films now. I don't think I've seen that many 2009 films either: Antichrist The Baader Meinhof Complex Coraline Departures Easy Virtue An Education (500) Days Of Summer The Girlfriend Experience The Girl From Monaco Gomorrah He's Just Not That Into You The Hurt Locker The Lemon Tree Moon Revanche Rudo Y Cursi Séraphine Summer Hours Taken Thirst Underworld: Rise of the Lycans Watchmen X-Men Origins: Wolverine More than I thought.

The Hurt Locker was good. Rudo y Cursi was ok.

And I loved how Rosamund Pike's character Helen was a clone of Dusty Springfield.

Might be the best movie I've seen this year. I agree, although I don't have much to compare it to. LOL But I have a feeling it would end up in the top 5 even if I'd seen all the movies that came out!

That's so weird because I just decided to see that movie tonight at the art house theater near my apartment. I didn't even realize that was an art film. I guess because Spike Jonze directed it. We'll compare notes tomorrow.

I loved the opening credits. It was all filmed very well. I'd give it 1/2

Ooh this looks like something I'd love. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

A schoolgirl gives it up to a suave older man in 1960s London. You know you'll love it.

His acting was very good. It expressed the world and psyche of a child, and had real integrity in that sense.

The opening was Max just bouncing around the house with lots of energy and then the screen freezes with his face very close to the camera with the title Where The Wild Things Are in the movie's scratch writing next to him. Excellent!
