of course and yes. The gun lobby and supporters promote this mania that only creates more of an atmosphere for people to kill people with guns.

I've bought three guns in my time: a .38 Special for my brother when he went through police academy; another .38 Special to kill myself, which I asked my brother to confiscate when my depressive episode lifted; and a .357 Magnum again to kill myself when another depressive episode set on. This last gun I purchased despite an order my brother placed on me -- with my consent -- so that I couldn't get another firearm. confused

Each time, the nice sales people simply helped me pick out something powerful enough that the (presumably human) target "ain't ever gettin' back up." Then I gave them some basic personal info, waited a day or so until they "called it into the feds," rolleyes and went back to pay for the weapon. And I found that buying a box of hollow-point bullets is no tougher than buying some M&Ms.

I finally got rid of the last gun and ammo when I vowed to myself to raise my daughter.

I don't mention this all for sympathy or shock for shock's sake, but to say it is entirely too easy for folk who have NO business with guns to get them in the U.S. ...or at least in Ohio. I sometimes wonder what if I'd been more ill and homicidal instead of suicidal.

Should civilian handguns be banned outright in the U.S.? I dunno. But something isn't right.

I don't have a gun and have never shot one. I can't stand the NRA or the rest of the gun lobby. Nonetheless, I believe that people should be able to own guns.

Too many guns out there with too many short fused and ignorant people.

My father owns 12-15 guns, some of them are rifles. They were his fathers, and got passed down to him when his father died. He use to go hunting with his dad,and I was told that his parents had hoped that he would have a son that he could hunt with, and eventually pass the guns down to,alas he was blessed with 3 daughters. lol

I have told him that if he leaves them to me,I will not be keeping them. I have no need or want for a gun.

I don't support anything that sentence does have fact in it....think about it....the gun trigger has to be squeezed to be fired n a person has to load the gun and squeeze the trigger etc etc....

I refuse a gun in my home cause of my daughter.

Wow. Glad you were able to get through all that. hug

And you're right, I think it should be MUCH tougher than it is to buy a gun and hollowpoints should be fucking outlawed. I bought my Sig Sauer P232 at a gun show and I KNOW they didn't do a background check that quick. I even asked dude and he said they did but I seriously doubt it. confused

In Texas you don't need a license to own a gun, but you do need a special license to carry concealed, which I have, but I rarely do. I have mine for protection at home cuz if somebody bust up in here they are catching some caps. nod

I have a Glock. I was scared of it at first. But after a couple rounds at the shooting range it was fun. The people at the shooting range were creepy though.
I have police officers in my family. People who I dont think should be police. And I've always been scared of them because I just didnt think they were the kind of people who should be allowed to carry a gun. So i guess it is fun to get in their head a bit by becoming comfortable with a gun. But the only reason it was bought was because of the burglaries and break-ins that have been occurring in the summers the past 4 years, on a weekly basis.

No, but really, I took a 10 hour class to earn my license to carry a concealed weapon. Then you have to take a 4 hour class every few years to renew your license. I try to go to the gun range every few months. My instructor and the people that own the gun range are all former, veteran cops and take this stuff seriously. I expected them to be anti-gun for civilians but they are adamant that it's a good thing, in the right non-criminal hands.
