Field Trip to a Whole Foods Store I was thinking of doing this today, especially since I'm trying to get away from processed foods....that and I've never actually been in a "whole foods" store, does anybody shop there? I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince. | |

Be sure to eat anything fresh you buy from there within a day or two cuz fresh produce goes bad fast and they're expensive as hell.
Oh and you know I gotta kick a shout out to Austin, Texas, my hometown and the birthplace of Whole Foods stores.  [Edited 11/7/09 5:53am] | |

It's like shopping any other grocery store. Stick to the perimeter - that's where the fresh stuff is. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. | |

I'm not thrilled about some of the political and corporate positions of Whole Foods' founder and CEO John Mackey, so I'm a bit conscious of throwing his concern my financial support of late. That said, the company is run generally pretty responsibly and it's a great shopping experience. They've got a little of everything in the organic/health/eco-friendly veins all in one spot, and as SCNDLS said, just browsing the aisles can be fun.
I'll look around and pick up an occasional item here or there, but when it comes down to buying volume -- and I've got the time to rove around -- I can find similar or better prices and quality at local farmers markets or other vendors in the area. [Edited 11/7/09 6:35am] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

He empowers his employees with choice and freedom to do with their own money what they wish... and that's bad political policy?
That said, I agree that I'm more of a fan of Farmer's Markets. Where I live, there is a lot of rural area, so I can even avoid that all together and just ask people from work what they are growing and if they want to part with any extra for some dough. Seems like a lot of people have a stand here or there, and most people have gardens of some sort. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Its so fucking expensive, & sadly I've started relying on them for certain things:
- they sell Simply Limeade pretty cheap (shocking that they sell anything cheap!) - the skinless breakfast sausage has become a fave (chicken apple, turkey maple) - fell in love w/ the chicken meatballs w/ parmesan & fennel (which I can't find elsewhere) - the meat counter is the latest thing I fell for, lamb burger w/ feta (& something else) is TO DIE, turkey is pretty good too - a gelato I love is only sold there & @ Lucky, & the Lucky by me is skanky - those damn Two Bite Brownies!! 
Just pop in & browse, no harm in that. But it adds up, many of the prices are ridiculous.   I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it | |

I used to when I lived in the States, pretty much daily because there was one across from my last house. You'll enjoy it. It's not particularly worth it to buy fruits or veggies there rather than specialty products (sauces, rubs, actual whole grains, holistic items, etc.). If you need organic produce I would reccommend going to your local farmer's market instead to cut out the cost incurred with the middleman. | |

You'll quickly discover why it got the name "Whole Paycheck"... but I agree they do have some great things there... I only shop there if I'm planning an evening of "fine home cooking" and that's rare.
I also think the owner's stance on health care sucks balls and I loved when this went down in our Oakland store... A working class Hero is something to be ~ Lennon |

Thank you. Would that the corporate honchos where I work offered the health care options Whole Foods does. To me, Whole Foods is about...food. I love that they've forged relationships with local producers. As fabulous as Madison's Farmer's Market is in the summer, it gets a little "thin" in winter. It's nice to have another option. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. | |

I shop there frequently. You'll soon discover they don't call it whole paycheck market for nothin',
Ive gotten to the point where I go there for certain must haves as well as regular stuff. Lots of eco friendly cosmetics, insense, produce, great salad bar and hot bar, and the only place in town where I can get decent trout filets. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise. | |

I always look for to the organic health or imported sections of any store. To browse the teas and other various things. Then buy like 10 items to try. Some are great! | |

Thankfully, Publix is always expanding their green-wise and organic sections so maybe in the near future I wont have to go to Whole Foods as much.
