Conjoined twins Krishna and Trishna separated during surgery at Royal Children's Hospital

UPDATE 4.55pm: TWINS Trishna and Krishna are recovering after marathon surgery of almost 32 hours, described as a "perfect" operation.
Royal Children's Hospital head of surgery Leo Donnan emerged from the hospital shortly about 4.30pm today to declare the twins were now recovering in intensive care following the completion of five hours or reconstructive surgery.

It came about three-and-a-half hours after he revealed the twins were successfully separated after almost 27 hours of complex surgery.

Mr Donnan said the twins were "in good condition and healthy".

"They’re both where we thought they’d be."

He said the large team of surgeons were happy with the result, and resting with some effectively on their feet for nearly the entire operation.

"They’re satisfied that they’ve got through it technically correctly and now they can stand back and look at two individuals rather than just concentrating on the technical side of it."
Despite the good prognosis, he said the girls still faced many challenges in their recovery.

"They’ve been very optimistic but pragmatic about the girls. It will be very many days before we know how well it’s gone."

He said the focus would now be ensuring the girls were healthy over the next few days.

It's insane what they can do these days in surgery. Unbelievable.
