I LOVE this movie: AN EDUCATION

Don't you love when you have incredibly high expectations for a film and when you finally see it, it meets them all? love

16-year-old Jenny (Carey Mulligan) is on a clear path to Oxford University in pre-Beatles London when she meets the much older and more worldly David (Peter Sarsgaard) who introduces her to an intoxicating new life of art, music and sex. David seduces not only Jenny, but her protective parents as well, much to the dismay of the teachers at Jenny's school who perceive Jenny's enlightenment as wasted potential. star star star star 3/4 (out of five) (Minus 1/4 star for one act of inexplicable carelessness by the otherwise always clever and prepared David.)

YOU stopped watching movies? eek Why is that?

Now that baseball season is over, I plan on seeing A LOT of films. Right up until the awards next year.

Well, not completely. But I look at my 2009 movie list and I have only seen 15 movies omg ALL YEAR!!!! How will I ever make a top ten list out of that? lol

Part of it is that I work for a theatre company now, and I've been seeing plays instead. nod And suddenly this year, I get that "lonely complex" creeping in, disbelief so I don't go to so many movies alone anymore. Weird. I miss the discipline of it.

Get back in the habit of going to see movies alone! That's how I see most new films now.

I don't think I've seen that many 2009 films either:

Antichrist
The Baader Meinhof Complex
Coraline
Departures
Easy Virtue
An Education
(500) Days Of Summer
The Girlfriend Experience
The Girl From Monaco
Gomorrah
He's Just Not That Into You
The Hurt Locker
The Lemon Tree
Moon
Revanche
Rudo Y Cursi
Séraphine
Summer Hours
Taken
Thirst
Underworld: Rise of the Lycans
Watchmen
X-Men Origins: Wolverine

More than I thought. hmmm

And I loved how Rosamund Pike's character Helen was a clone of Dusty Springfield.

I agree, although I don't have much to compare it to. LOL But I have a feeling it would end up in the top 5 even if I'd seen all the movies that came out!

That's so weird because I just decided to see that movie tonight at the art house theater near my apartment. I didn't even realize that was an art film. I guess because Spike Jonze directed it. We'll compare notes tomorrow.

I feared for little Max the entire time he was on wild things island. Those creatures were huge. I loved the opening credits. It was all filmed very well. I'd give it star star star 1/2

Is that out of 4 stars? lol

What were the opening credits again? I think I was a lot like Max as a kid, it brought up feelings I had long forgotten. His acting was very good. It expressed the world and psyche of a child, and had real integrity in that sense.

Out of five stars. I liked it, but not that much. smile

The opening was Max just bouncing around the house with lots of energy and then the screen freezes with his face very close to the camera with the title Where The Wild Things Are in the movie's scratch writing next to him. Excellent!

I remember being invigorated during the credits, but I can't remember anything specific. lol
