I'm afraid of dogs no matter how small

i'm really sorry about your niece and i hope she has full recovery..., but...i don't condone euthanizing somebody's dog because of one (known) incident. my dogs have never attacked anyone, but if they did, heaven forbid, i would fight for them tooth and nail. i don't let my dogs off my property at all unless we're going to the vet. the large size of my dogs and their breed heritage rotty and bull mastiff would make them a target. kids have a nice way of wanting to pet the nice doggie, but at the end of the day, it's still an animal.

Yep, they get a taste of human blood and if they like it they'll attack again. I think another reason they destroy the animal is to test the brain for rabies. My little 6 year old neice had the top of her head, from hairline to near the middle of her scalp, ripped open by a Japenese Akita today. The owner is someone my sister knows and her little girl had gone to give the dog a hug..AKita's do look rather cuddly, and the dog swung around and bit her!!! Apparently the dog is a bit old...but damn!
She was such a brave little soul sitting on the hospital bed with a huge bandage covering most of her head and her big brown eyes barely peeking out. When they put the needle things in for the drip she didnt even flinch, all she wanted to know was when she could have her icecream.
She will be having an overnight stay and then surgery in the morning (its night here now).
Apparently the guy who has the dog is now hiding it WTF????? I know people love their dogs, I adore my two dogs, my oldest is nearly 9...but seriously if one of mine bit someones child I would put it down myself!! My sister is about ready to go and get rid of the Dog herself and is absolutely fuming!

That's awful. I hope she gets well fast.

That dog should be put down. It would be the right thing to do. Next time the next attack on someone could be fatal.

I think it depends on the dog really. Sweet little Fluffykins would likely never decide to snack on their owner despite maybe taking a nip a time or two. But if you have a dog that already has aggression issues ya just never know. Even if they don't like the taste, they may just decide in their little doggy mind that in order to be a good guard dog they have to eliminate ALL other creatures in the vicinity, whether they walk on 4 legs or 2.
