I was thinking of doing this today, especially since I'm trying to get away from processed foods....that and I've never actually been in a "whole foods" store, does anybody shop there?

Whole Food Market is THE only place I go for red meats. And the canned fishes are very underrated! cool

I'm not thrilled about some of the political and corporate positions of Whole Foods' founder and CEO John Mackey, so I'm a bit conscious of throwing his concern my financial support of late. That said, the company is run generally pretty responsibly and it's a great shopping experience. They've got a little of everything in the organic/health/eco-friendly veins all in one spot, and as SCNDLS said, just browsing the aisles can be fun.

I'll look around and pick up an occasional item here or there, but when it comes down to buying volume -- and I've got the time to rove around -- I can find similar or better prices and quality at local farmers markets or other vendors in the area.

Unfortunately Whole Foods is pretty much the only game in town around here unless I want to travel long distances to find a similar store. Thankfully, Publix is always expanding their green-wise and organic sections so maybe in the near future I wont have to go to Whole Foods as much.

What about Wild Oats? That was even closer to me than Whole Foods (I think either 10th or 11th Street & West Avenue?), and slightly cheaper . Please don't tell me they closed!...oh, and yeah, Publix is getting def.trying to play catch up with their organic offerings nod

I honestly don't know if Wild Oats is still down there. I'm up by Aventura which is almost Broward County. lol The hassle involved in trying to get to SOBE most days ain't worth the drive, not to mention the parking situation. I'm pretty impressed with Publix's efforts...I figure if I keep buying from their selection, maybe they'll continue to expand it.

whole foods has just taken the good co-op stores and mass produced them.
good co-ops have all the good stuff just like whole foods, but the people in the surrounding area own the store and decide what is stocked in the store.

That's the one I used to go to! Btw, Loehmann's plaza still open? My favorite shopping run used to be a Loehmann's sale, then head over to Whole Foods lol

Loehmann's is still there allright...I hang out at the Barnes and Noble over there from time to time. I frequent that whole area since it's between work and home.

I've heard a lot of horror stories about getting involved in co-ops. Especially in the bigger cities. People take advantage of them so much, that they have to enact draconian laws in order to get people to actually volunteer their time. Haven't done one personally, though.

The New York Times had an article about this recently: http://www.nytimes.com/20...0op&st=cse
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

For anything, the stocks for Wild Oats were brought out by Whole Foods a few years ago. So that Wild Oats location that you mention is now Whole Foods.

Wow. Interesting read. I wonder if I read some version of that somewhere else? Like a commentary about it on a blog or something.
