And people usually respond to my criticism of "mind-expanding" drugs by referring to PRESCRIPTION medicines also as drugs. falloff I have a chemical imbalance in my brain, my MEDICINE doesn't "expand my mind" or take me on "spiritual experiences". It's actually a MEDICINE that was developed for epilepsy, do you believe that epileptic people also take DRUGS? shake Too dumb.

yes.
a drug is a drug is a drug.
that's why they should all be legal...and we should be able to do them all if we want to. We should not cast judgement on those who choose to participate in drugs recreationally. I never really understood that POV.

A medicine is something you take because you have to, a drug is something you take because you want to. There's another huge difference - society and health care might have to take care of me if I did NOT take my medicine, so it's my goddamned responsibility to do so. People who take drugs might have to be taken care of because of something they chose to put into their system. I for one don't want my tax money to go to detoxing heroin addicts, I'd rather it go to a good school for the children or care for the elderly. I haven't heard of an illness that is either cured or controlled by a recreational substance, don't go there with the medicinal weed cause it doesn't control the illness, it controls some of the effects of the treatment. That's not the same thing.
You are welcome to do any drug you want, as long as it doesn't affect your children or my tax money. shrug

I myself dont do drugs... I HAVE however done drugs... So I feel I can give my thoughts as well... Im really getting tired of seeing people slamming others and riding in on their high horses calling people names and telling them they have no lives or brains... I have read your past posts, you are not a bunch of moralistic do gooders... I say grow up people... How many of you have gotten wasted on alcohol?? The only difference is alcohol happens to be legal...

As for comparing life sustaining prescription drugs to, use at will mind altering drugs just cuz you wanna have a good time, well there is no comparison to be made... That was about the silliest thing I have ever read on the org... rolleyes

Thanks for agreeing with me on that last part, unfortunately this is what some people say only to ME in these discussions because they have a hate on for me about it. shrug
My militant disgust with "recreational" drugs come from growing up in an addict home, with things like being appointed the task of not letting my mum stick a needle in her arm when I was about 6 yo, and one year before that I sat in her kitchen while her bf at the time od'ed and died. Detoxing friends in a basement, going to the same friends' funerals, etc etc. I got drunk twice to see what the hooplah was about, I felt sick and got memory lapses and that was all. I'm scared to death of drugs, because I know that I have inherited an addict personality from my parents. Docs have offered to prescribe me heavy stuff like benzo's for my sleep problems but I turn them flat down, ain't gonna happen in my body. It's pure luck that me and my sis came out ok with no handicaps, so I feel I have the right to feel the way I do and I also feel I have a right to speak the way I do about drugs. I feel it's a shame I have to explain that every ghat damned time, and this is in no way whatsoever directed at you. You always have a respectful way of discussing things and I appreciate you for that. rose

I understand that's the way YOU feel about medicine vs drug but...technically they are one in the same. doctors perscibe persciption drugs...
I'm not comparing someone who has to take perscription drugs to recreational drug users at all (just to be clear, that wasn't me and I found it a ridiculous comparison)
Many perscription drugs only controll symptoms of illness or disease also, very few actually cure anything.
and believe me...I'm a small govt. kinda girl..I don't think our tax money should be paying for detoxing anyone...ever...legal or illegal drug use. That's what PRIVATE healthcare and PRIVATE charities are for. wink
