She's from Ft Worth and is really good people and not as divisive as most Republicans from Texas. She was being considered to be McCain's VP running mate and she's now running for Governor of Texas.

I guess you've never heard of Kinky Friedman huh??? http://www.kinkyfriedman.com/ The Dems in Texas REALLY need to get their shit together because the state is bluer than ever yet they're gonna squander that capital. I have NO idea who the Democratic candidate is. Never heard of him. But I've met Kay many times and I know a lot of black folks who've worked with her over the years and they all have good things to say. And she comes across as very credible and knowledgeable. But I will say her voting record sucks, in general. But we don't have a lot of options and she's better than the current one . . . I think. We'll see. [Edited 11/5/09 15:52pm]

You KNOW I was thinking about you. How's he doing? I'm emailing him now to see if he heard. He's fine. He's in Taji. Will be coming home in April and then back to Ft. Hood for 4 months. Then he's out. I think I'll be more worried about him being at Ft. Hood. The second person I thought of was Butterfli, since I knew she was close. First thing I thought was gang-bangers, but MSNBC says it was some "major" who did not want to be deployed to Iraq. "Let love be your perfect weapon..." ~~Andy Biersack

I understand why this is tragic but soldiers die on US soil and it's a major national story, they die on foreign soil and the country barely notices. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

C'mon Supa, soldiers being killed in a combat zone is not the same as being killed at en masse, at home, while unarmed, by one of your own.

I don't know, Richard. I guess because if you are on foreign soil you know you may die and you know you are risking your life. You shouldn't have to worry about that on your own home base with your own fellow soldiers. "Let love be your perfect weapon..." ~~Andy Biersack

before everyone starts freaking out on me, I'm just making an observation. Why do we assume the violence inside a soldier stops because they are home? This is a bigger problem than the media will portray it as. If this individual was so stressed out and SPENT in this Iraq/Afghanistan experience that this is what he turned to, our military and civilian leaders need to think about what is really happening to our soldiers. They are not robots but we expect them to coast through all situations as if they arent' human. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

That is true. It IS a bigger problem. The guys who beat up my son were given no punishment and a lot of leeway because they had just come back from Iraq and were "stressed." So they took it out on him. I can't even think about what my son may be dealing with in Iraq. "Let love be your perfect weapon..." ~~Andy Biersack

I hear what you're saying but do we even KNOW that he's been to Iraq before? And I think it has been reported that these soldiers need a lot of support when they return and they're trying to give it to them. I just don't think the resources are there to really make a difference. I just want the gov't to cut their fucking losses and stop sacrificing our young men and women for a futile cause. I have friends that have done 3-4 tours. Bring them home, NOW! Until Barack keeps his promise on this issue I ain't checking for shit else he's got to say.

It was unclear why the two other soldiers were taken into custody. A senior administration official told NBC News that the shootings could have been a criminal matter rather than a terrorism-related attack and that there was no intelligence to suggest a plot against Fort Hood.
Military and local hospital officials said the victims were a mixture of men and women, military and civilian. At least one of those killed was a civilian police officer, Cone said. At least four local SWAT officers were among those wounded, NBC affiliate KCEN-TV of Waco reported. "Let love be your perfect weapon..." ~~Andy Biersack

Well the bottom line in all of this is that our troops are being abused. Nobody is disputing that but this situation ain't the same as soldiers dying in combat hence the extra news coverage. And like I said we still don't know if the murderer was ever in Iraq so if he hasn't been he wasn't being abused so this massacre doesn't have the extenuating circumstances of him having PTSD. He was a medical doctor trained to care for these soldiers not murder them in cold blood.

The killer is a converted Muslim.
The gunman, Major Malik Nadal Hasan, was described as a psychiatrist who didn't believe in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and wanted out of the military before he was set to be deployed overseas. Hasan currently worked with soldiers at Darnall Army Medical Center on Fort Hood after being transfered in July from Walter Reed Army Medical Center where he worked for six years.
