Org artists/designers/creative types, I could use your help. About two years ago, I painted my bedroom this kind of dull sand brown. I thought it would be cool, but it didn't quite turn out how I wanted, although it's not horrible. I'm feeling lazy and don't want to repaint the entire thing, and I'm thinking I can salvage it with a good accent wall.

I'm leaning toward a dark blue, royal blue, some kind of blue, because I think a darker accent wall against the lighter three walls would visually elongate the room. As a general rule of thumb, is that correct?

Any tips or tricks regarding accent walls that anyone would want to share?

Well, if your walls are a neutral sandy colour, you may want to try a complimentary of that colour

If your neutrals have a strong yellow undertone, consider using mauves or deep plums - especially if your neutrals are bright and vibrant.
The contrast will really wake the room up...

If your neutrals have more of a reddish undertone, try vibrant greens...

Thanks, Sammi! I don't think a green would look good, but also, my neutral color is definitely not vibrant. I'll check out the link, though. I appreciate it.

Neutrals are usually a little tricky to co-ordinate with, maybe even a crimson would be nice?

Seriously, though, I think warm. I have a small place, and in my living room, I did a really vibrant orange that rocks. So I was thinking the bedroom should offset that somewhat, which is why I thought blue. But a vibrant green might work well too. (I realize this is hard to do since you don't know the exact colors I've got, and I'm not at home right now, so I can't post any pictures, so I'm cool with just general info.)

I find certain shades of red very "classy"

My sis has her living room painted red (merlot) & it looks amazing. her furniture is old leather sofa/antique books/ think english country.

I think a shade of red would look nice...as long as its the right "shade".

Also consider paper (very on-trend), a dark blue or red with the sand colour evident in the pattern.
