The 3D effect is best in the beginning of the movie. After the first hour you get used to it and hardly notice it anymore anyway. FREE THE 29 MAY 1993 COME CONFIGURATION!

Sadly I agree I'm not really into Sam Worthington, although it was neat seeing his big package in 3D. Did you notice how skinny his legs were compared to his strong upper body? Maybe it was a special effect because he was a cripple? And those awful tattoos. I don't recall him having those in Terminator 4. FREE THE 29 MAY 1993 COME CONFIGURATION!

I wonder how the Navi had sex, considering that the males quite obviously had no penises. They were all flat like the women. FREE THE 29 MAY 1993 COME CONFIGURATION!

It could have been internal. And brought out on special occasions. They are 10 feet tall. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Referring to the natives of Pandora "savages" and "monkeys" was something the British and the Spaniards said about Africans and South Americans when they colonized those continents.
It's easier to justify taking lands and resources of the indigenous population when you devalue them. The special effects were beyond remarkable and I didn't even get to see the 3d version. That show was sold out. yup scary they can spend 200 mil on a predictable plot like that. I mean come on.

'Avatar' Adds $10M To Opening Weekend Tally December 2009 A stronger-than-expected Sunday boosted the weekend box-office total for "Avatar" by $10.3 million, a sign of strong momentum going into the holidays. The James Cameron-directed 3-D adventure ended up selling $77 million of tickets in the U.S. and Canada, distributor 20th Century Fox said today. On Sunday morning, the studio estimated it would reach $73 million by the end of the day. In the 106 foreign countries where "Avatar" debuted last week, it grossed $165.5 million through Sunday. The studio's estimate Sunday morning was $159.2 million. Its final worldwide opening weekend total is $242.5 million. http://latimesblogs.latim...ekend.html

Saw it today.
The world is beautifully rendered. Everyone enjoyed the movie. I didn't like some of the scenes and thought the movie was quite long, but it was still enjoyable. It was so photo-realistic, that it was like watching a real movie unfold before my eyes. I couldn't tell the characters were not real in most cases. And of course, Mr. Worthington just gets more and more attractive to me. He's not even my type, but jaysus, do I love his voice and 'glow'.

The only highlight except the visuals was Michelle Rodriguez The movie story was nothing extra, I would say it was a little bit cliché, but the visual and audio parts were great and very innovative.

It was VERY cliche, and the scenery reminded me of the Wookie Planet in Star Wars But with Cameron, I don't think he cares that the story line is completely original--He's more concern about "does the story work" and are the characters worth caring about. He tends to nail those elements pretty well. I would love to see him direct a revamp of Graffiti Bridge.

Btw have you noticed that song during the outro has two bars which were very similar to the Titanic song?

I saw it last night in IMAX 3D and will agree with most people here that the visuals are mind-blowing while the story is just so-so. It reminded me a little of Princess Mononoke.
