Hey can you be a socky greaser? Or a greasy socker? I mean you don't have to be limited to one do you?

The Outsiders was required reading in my Jr. High School. I'm glad it was, cuz it introduced me 2 the world of S.E. Hinton, and all her writings.

I can't believe she was only 16 when she wrote The Outsiders!

reading

Anyway... When I was younger, I really was a greaser. In fact, if you've seen the movie (directed by Francis Ford Coppola) I resembled little Johnny (Ralph Macchio's character).

Now - we've done pretty well... and mind u, we're not up in the Soc catagory (my daughter will not b cruising up in a red corvette 2 high school)... but, I'm somewhere in the middle - call me a "GreaSoc"

OK then, I will have to place myself into the greaser realm. I grew up broke, so I can relate.

GREASER!!

The book was excellent...
The movie had alot of young superstars...

Leif Garret
Ralph Macchio
Matt Dillon
Emilio Estevez
Patrick Swayze

Wasn't Tom Cruise in this movie also?
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I don't remember Tom Cruise being in it, though I could be wrong.

Just went to the TC fansite...(dear Lord!)

He did The Outsiders in '83, the same year that
Risky Business came out. Top Gun came out in
'86.

I don't usually like him either, but I did like him alot in Magnolia. The character was a prick, but he did a great job of acting.

No, I wouldn't go. I don't care who was paying my way. I haven't seen that movie yet and it is on PPV... I am avoiding it.

I don't know why he is either. He is revolting to me. ACK!

You know what, I HATE that book! I had to read "The Outsiders" last year in Honors English II. Can you believe they'd make you read that shit in Honors?

I had it finished in two days, and everyone else struggled with it for the next 2 damn weeks. rolleyes

I had a kick arse project over it though. My partner and I made a magazine called the "Greaser Digest." Elvis from the '68 comeback special graced out front page. We played "Kentucky Rain" during our presentation. biggrin

The magazine also had ads made for hair grease, 1968 corvettes, and several other items. As well as a lengthy article about Elvis' comeback special, and an advertisement for that. biggrin

It was good!
