Excellent book, LaV... you should read it. The movie is good too. It's actually one of my favorite books!

Not really... I am using it in that way (loosely) but it was used to define class structures in the book. Greasers were poor and rough while the socs were rich and polished.

There was a greaser/soc war later on.

Well, the problem is that I went to a high school that had both greasers and socs and trust me, my little brown face was not welcomed on either side of that fence. I happily steered clear of both groups.
