I'm thinking about doing a half next year. smile

I'm taking the winter off as my knees were starting to get really sore near the end of my training. And being I'm totally new to running this year, I don't want to make the rooky mistake of overtraining and injuring myself. I'll do other stuff through the winter and pick it up again around March. That's the plan, anyway.

I found in training 4 the half it helped if i did the eliptical every other day for at least 45 mins...saves your knees for the long runs! You will LOVE doing the half tho! It is so much fun! Im thinking bout doing a whole but it is soooo hard on a persons body and lets face it...im not 20 anymore! eek

Yeah, I plan to start on the elliptical soon.

I thought about doing a whole just to say I did it but it's SUCH a committment to train for! Months and months of work and I run so freaking slow, you really don't have time for anything else. lol It would consume everything.

Jog? Yes, but not run,,,,,5k would be easy, thats exactly one hour.

I've been in the gym EVERYDAY for a year now, I didn't miss a single session and each day I feel my fitness improving everytime I make an activity around the house.

EVERYDAY? that's awesome! highfive clapping

what's your routine??

I don't have a routine, my trainer said that the less you strict yourself with the same routine, the more your body will endure against pressure and strain.

I do have a program that I switch every week, this week has been:

4 days - 60 minutes cardio(5 km) followed by 3 abs training(not always the same ones).

3 days - 30 minutes cardio(2.5 km) followed by 6 trainings for chest, back, legs, shoulders, biceps & triceps(not always the same ones either).

As you know, stretching exercise after these are VERY important as well. If I had it my way, I'd be in the gym more than 2 hours but I was adviced to put on only one hour or one & a 1/2 at most,,,,since I come in here everyday.

So far so good nod However, I wish I could find good natural energy drinks,,,,,I've been tempted to try these protein shakes but I'm reluctant.

Ya, my sister did chicago a couple of years ago and to this day has problems with her iotibial (SPELLING?) band...Shes always in pain, so i think is it worth it??
But ya, i want to do it just to say i did it also!... When im near the end of the 13 miles, im tired, but i think i could go a few more miles ok but i think the wall they talk about would kick my butt around mile 18...but if your properly trained for it one should be able to get past it ok... So idk...its just finding the time like you said...

be sure to let the muscle group you work one day- rest the next day. don't work the same muscle group everyday. if you do you won't allow them to rebuild themselves stronger- each workout breaks the muscle down...

Exactly nod thats why I NEVER stick with a routine.

As for taking a rest day lol I tried it, but lol I end up feeling guilty,,,,,funny thing is, I don't feel guilty when I pass by Krispy Kremes lol Aside from sex, exercises are the best when it comes to losing tension,,,,that is why I don't take a rest day unless I have to.

We have GNC store next to my gym,,,,and as tempted as I am, idk. I always think about the side effects and the possibility that they(protein shakes) decreases weight,,,,,which really is the reason why I'm reluctant.

I have the platic shaker,,,,and it has been empty eversince I bought it lol

I tried sugar free redbull but the last time I drank it, I had a strong dizzy spell and rapid heartbeat after an exercise which creeped me the fuck out,,,,I never drank a redbull since.

I too am very leery about some of the drinks out there but the protein is harmless, its just whey protein... No energy stuff in it just helps repair your muscles... My husband uses all the NOexplode and stuff like that but my theory on energy drinks b4 a workout is this..

I want my body to naturally be able to handle my workout...if it cant than i need to step it down a notch... Like i said to him, what happens if you run out of that stuff or are traveling and dont wanna mess with brining it...Then your gonna have a shitty workout and i HATE having shitty workouts lol...

Why would the protein drink decrease your weight? If your not using it as a meal replacer it wont make you lose weight... If anything it will help you build muscle mass, now dont get me wrong, i only drink 1 scoop a day but IF you want to be bulkier it will help do that as well but you would need to drink alot more of it...

Thing is, I'm not dependant on ANY alternative methods to lose my weight,,,I think my exercise is enough. I do need some endurance sometimes, which is where they come in.

But I talked with couple of people I train with, and like you said, it made them bulkier and gained a couple which I'm shying away from,,,,

I take a body sculpting class Monday, Wednesday and Friday for an hour and I try to do cardio twice a week, usually 4 miles each time. Either running or the elliptical.

This week, however, was a total bust!

I think I am actually going to go renew my membership at the gym today, especially since they offered such a nice come back package. It would truly help with my stress levels, I am sure lol

No idea, in relative terms, but I feel stronger now than I have for maybe 8 years. I've lost some of my vertical leap though and my knees are struggling. I swam over 1.5kms today in one hour at the pool. I think that's not too bad. I do weights 3 times a week and swim 3 times a week. I still drink too much and don't do enough cardio (I do ride an exercise bike 2 or 3 days a week and skip rope when I feel like it, but I slacked off for many years before now) but I think I'm doing ok. I plan to be the fittest I've been in my life at 30. shrug

I haven't run since my race, though. It's been rainy practically ever since.

I'll probably start running on a treadmill regularly soon here. I've just been taking a bit of a break.

I do yoga on Tuesday nights with a class and I do a bit at home by myself on weekends, though.

This is really impressive! I do cardio a few times a week, but it's never, ever running. I should start. It's such a great form of cardio - you can do it almost anywhere.

Also, when will this blasted rain end? Those poor trick-or-treaters may have to cover their costumes in jackets, hoods, and hats!

Honestly it hasnt made me bulky or gain poundage at all! Women dont tend to bulk up like men do anyway unless you are into some SERIOUS weight training... One or two scoops a day wont bulk anything, those people are drinking it like 3-4 or more a day..

Most generally "most" people dont eat enough protein in their diet, and since you are working out you would need more so you wont bulk at all...

OK, maybe 5k is too much (that's a little over 3 miles for non-metric types).
how about 1 mile?

anything you care to share about your fitness level is cool.

I wouldn't run it I've always hated running. Walking no problem, but I'd like to swim it. But I would definitely need training beforehand. I'm not unfit but I'm not as fit as I should be. Though I've been a fitness fantatic for quite a no. of years in my life previously, which is why I'm probably a little lazy now.
