But this doesn't change the fact that the pet food industry is an extension of the human food industry: http://www.bornfreeusa.or...re=1&p=359 It doesn't change the fact that these animals are carnivors, bred through evolution to have these charming traits--they're still killers of other animals. So what is your thoughts? Thanks for that link, it was a fantastic read!! I will pass this on. Keenmeister

Humans are also killers of other animals. "Pure" animals (those without thumbs) that are predators kill and eat other animals, it is the way of things and the way it should be. There is nothing strange about a domestic dog killing a domestic rabbit, but it's the responsibility of humans to make sure that doesn't happen because the animals are where WE put them. Some people interfere with one animal hunting another in the wild, and those people are just fucked in the head. The classic image of a lion taking down a zebra or a gazelle is RIGHT, it's as it should be. An image of a whale hunting ship hunting whales is WRONG though.

I totally agree with your whole statement, the only thing that is wrong about how we as humans "hunt" is the way we treat these animals through the whole process... Thats why I try and only buy from free range or small farm operations that allow their animals to roam... I dont know what difference it makes but it makes me feel better... ~~~~~ Oh that voice...incredible....there should be a musical instrument called George Michael... ~~~~~

I respect you for that, I'm sort of on the fence about it because having worked with animal keeping and been to agricultural school, I KNOW that many farmers take very good care of their animals. There's also huge discrepancies in animal protection laws between countries as well as laws regulating how you keep them (chickens being the obvious example), but the slaughter industry is without a doubt the biggest fucking culprit. The workers dehumanising the animals isn't in itself stranger than a check-out worker dehumanising customers because you get numbed as to what you do, but the thing is that in that particular industry it's NOT FUCKING OK! There are better ways of slaughtering that the major ones that are used in the bigger slaughterhouses today. I fucking hate it, but I simply don't have the finances to buy meat and dairy products from sources like that. If I did I would. My dog does eat venison based food though. It's a start I guess.

Lots of vegans who eat soy on a daily basis are getting cancer...there is an estrogen like substance called isoflavones that stimulates estrogen receptors. Not good!!! I don't think tofu is real food--not really good food anyways. Many types beans have very strong chemicals that are bad for human consumption. And yes, moderation is key. There are so many recipes that call for soy, in which combination of mushrooms can replace. Though I thought the estrogen theory was still debated? The "chemicals" in beans are phytates - phosphorous compounds that interfere with mineral absorption. Soybeans are very high in phytate - which is one reason so many people have a hard time digesting them. Phytates can be neutralized through fermentation. That is why things like miso and natto are better choices than tofu or soy milk (which are unfermented). Non-soy beans that have been canned have not had their phytates neutralized, either. It's actually very easy to ferment beans for home use. All you need are beans, water, a little yogurt and time. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Any step in that direction is not a small step!! I just had to adjust my shopping a bit to be able to afford it... We really dont eat all that much meat but i do stock it if it goes on sale... I buy organic milk, which is pretty expensive but i dont buy to many snacks which balances that out... I also only buy the free range organic eggs and they are a couple dollars more a dozen, but I dont go through them very fast...But then again, my kids are grown and its just my husband and I... He FREAKS when he shops with me cuz of the prices but he has been coming over to my side...slowly....lol ~~~~~ Oh that voice...incredible....there should be a musical instrument called George Michael... ~~~~~

He FREAKS when he shops with me cuz of the prices but he has been coming over to my side...slowly....lol Organic meat is way too expensive here, it's constantly debated how to make it more affordable for customers without shorting the farmers even more. Organic milk is not at all that much more expensive here than regular milk so I get that. We have a law concerning chickens/hens, free range is mandatory but then you can get the organic ones as well. I don't do that because as of yet they're still too expensive, and I have a very limited budget. I'd rather spend that money on good food for my three pets, I gotta look out for my own family first. It's weird how prices on organic food differs between countries/continents.
