What was Halloween like in the ghetto during the 1950s-60s?

Ima young brotha from the burbs but this something Ive always wondered.

With all the racial tension, was it any different then? We're kids in the projects and hood dressing up and going trick or treating? Were the police leary of black youths wearing masks? Or was it a "white" thing?
