Writers Block How is a writer suppose 2 over come a bad case of writers block? I've been trying 2 write a scrits within these past few months, but have been seriously effected with a bad case of writer's block. A dicitionary and Therus comes in handy, but they don't nesscarily help with getting ur creative juices flowing.
ANY ADIVCE ? | |

When I have writers block, I take a few minutes to myself and through mental telepathy I ask the powers that be (higher power) to give me the words to write and miraculously the flood gates open and I am given the words to write.

It'll pass. Best not to force it. I've found that that can make it even more painful. Just let it come naturally. It will eventually. Don't worry.

Ex-Moderator | Journal writing. I've been keeping journals since I was in junior high. If that doesn't work, start writing a letter to someone, whether you intend to send it or not. Even if you're not writing about the topic you want, it gets the words flowing and eventually what you want to write will come to you. For me, it works every time. |

ANY ADIVCE ? Let it rest a while. Your mind, that is. Get away from trying to force creativity, take a break from writing. Come back to it when you're in a more flowing state of mind. If you try to force it it'll come across as forced and unnatural. Everybody needs a break sometimes to recharge, no matter what they do or how good they are at it. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

I usually don't write until I'm mentally ready. But if I'm on a deadline of some sort, I look through my notebooks to see if I can get something going. I don't keep a journal, just a few notebooks of random thoughts, concepts, scenes & dialogues that I know I want to incorporate into something down the line. Sometimes I come upon some great stuff which inspires me all over again & gets me going.
If you don't have a journal or anything like that to refer to, try to just relax for a week or so. Keep your mind open, be receptive & observant, get out of the house, people watch, chill with some friends. Hopefully something will spring up for you, but like Nova said don't force it - the pressure clouds your creativity & you may never find your way. Working on one script at a time is probably a good idea as well, it's hard to shift your focus from one to the other within a tight period of time... Good luck!

could be a blocked 6th (third eye) or 7th (crown) chakra... mental cleansing and visualizations might be in order. are there people or worries preoccupying you, taking up your mental space best dedicated to other pursuits?

spend tons of time on the ORG, creating sex topics every day

Concentrate on other things.
Go sky diving. Scuba diving. Have tantric sex with IceNine. Watch all 7 seasons of Star Trek The Next Generation. Go visit a tattoo parlour (= fun!).

Getting away from what you're writing helps. Forget about it for awhile and then something will strike you that will open the floodgates.
When I was a full-time journalist, I would often have to get up from my desk, out of the newsroom...go walk around the building...something to get the creativity flowing and it worked...I've never been late for a deadline. [This message was edited Thu Jan 9 11:12:23 PST 2003 by applekisses]

what helps me is doing something else.
i put away what i'm working on and write something else; a poem, lyric, a letter, whatever. i try to get out whats really on my mind and blocking the flow. if that doesn't work,i go for a walk or go to a mall or coffee shop and people watch. there's an excellent book called "writing down the bones" that my mentor gave me. there are some excellent exercises in there.

but seriously, i really do think the ORG is a good place to take a break. there are a lot of interesting people here; strong minds and it's like going people watching outside but only, online so you can pop back and forth between screens while you'r working.
wouldn't it be interesting to format a book like an online interaction?

ANY ADIVCE ? Go and see Adaptation. Highly recommended for those with writers block. When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.
