Well pretty much anything built or passing through waters i.e. ships, oil rigs, buildings underwater etc will evoke some environmental problems but it only means that it would affect the environment but not necessarily damage it. It will not wipe out entire species of marine life, neither will it change the regional climate so I don't see it as being a catastrophe towards marine life.

Yah they are most certaintly delicate but thus far the damage has been minimal and they are somewhat thriving, as for the future of them it's kinda hard to stipulate the damage but it is a worry that only about 50% of the worlds reefs are healthy. Other factors to take into consideration that pose major threats are global warming, coral bleaching, sunscreen, overfishing and rising levels of carbon dioxide. As for ships and rigs it's the pollution that these objects emanate that assist in destroying the reefs.
