Our Parents!

For those of us lucky enough to have our parents around, let's talk...

Is it just me, or are the rest of you experiencing the weirdest "role reversal" with them? Now it seems I can hardly do any wrong, I am the perfect daughter, they remember all of the funny and smart things I say rather than the, um, "other" stuff, they ask my opinions constantly and actually listen to what I have to say! eek

I'm thinking they just need to see us get to the other side of all of the crap we were into during our youth. Once they see us handle a few difficulties in an adult, responsible way, I think that they realize we're gonna be okay, and they seem to lay off a bit.

I hope that happens for you. I think I'm lucky that way, I know that probably a lot of parents view themselves as our "lifetime bosses". wink

I agree with "luv4u".. but I'd say go back 3-4years and they wouldnt even consider me smart of anything just "what a nice kid" smile But now a few years older they actually come to me for advice or want an anwser on something, I dont even know myself.. - I guess when you've proved that you can handle things on your own they "respect" you more.. or something like that...lol

My mum had to be one of the most gorgeous women in Calcutta when she was younger. She ended up marrying my dad who is a cross between Yoda from Star Wars and Mr. Miagi from Karate Kid. It's their 30th anniversary this year woot!

Just like we will, they get wiser with age. You mellow more and see the beauty in people rather than their faults. Think about your younger years and how your would be ready t gey into fights easy. Now you use your brain more because you really you don't have to fight to solve all of your problems. You try harder to find peace and keep it around you.

I'm totally experiencing that with my mom. She's in her 70s now and she really looks at me like a growing source of wisdom, someone to bounce ideas off of...it's a little weird, but also refreshing that she is recognizing that I am an adult. smile

Just as we grow and mature, so do our parents..I think their roles change as we get older..

Being happy doesn't mean that everything is perfect, it means you've decided to look beyond the imperfections... unknown
