paranormal activity = blair witch project not falling for this cheap budget shit this time

Overhyped to the point of hysteria and lacking anything remotely redeeming for the seasoned fright fan, Paranormal Activity is all smoke and one too many mirrors. It’s an accurate reflection of an audience incapable of separating truth from trickery, a waste of time in both concept and execution. Kudos to writer/director Oren Peli and the various dread websites that have successfully ballooned this minor movie all out of proportion. They have made an event out of a non-entity, a direct to DVD title that would have showed some promise had it inexplicable and unexpectedly arrived in someone’s mailbox one day. In its barebones, low rent approach is an attempt to mimic reality without actually dealing with the actual implications of such a style. As a result, we get a typical scary movie gussied up with too much media expectations and too little onscreen substance.

I think Blair Witch was genius, but I do think Paranormal Activity is really good, not as original and scary as Blair Witch, it's more Hollywood (or should I say Japanese?) in it's flavor of scare, but the movie is done really well. I saw it twice with different groups of friends in completely packed theatres, and no one in the audience seemed disappointed. One guy behind us couldn't stop talking nonsense loudly throughout because he was nervous and scared. And even he screamed at one part.
People that don't like Blair Witch probably process films in a different way than people that do. You have to ask yourself do you like modern art at a museum or classic paintings? It might be an indicator of how you will also appreciate a movie that breaks normal convention to attempt to create a new mood. Do any of you who hated Blair Witch understand what you are seeing at the end? With the guy standing in the corner? My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

Blair Witch was a HUGE let down. Not scary at all. I was excited to see PA in theaters until I read a lot of reviews online. I think I'll pass.
look for blair witch

Basically! And a lot of reviews stated that the PA trailer already shows you all of the supposedly scary parts. I'll wait for the DVD. I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

The ending of Blair Witch freaked me out because I knew that the wich was making the man stand in the corner. I'm a huge fan of blood and guts but it was refreshing to just see something that was spooky and creepy. Every other horror movie out, IMO, is very predictable. Paranormal Activity, not so much. I think sometimes something is either so bad, or makes no sense at all and critics must praise it as BRILLIANT because they don't know what else to make of it.
Blair Witch sucked big time. I think it had a good concept and tremendous potential. But the whole what you can imagine is scarier than anything they could show you thing doesn't fly with me. That's code speak for we ain't got the budget to show you diddly squat. It wouldn't have taken much to make it scary. But to give nothing at all and play it off as use your imagination is just lazy IMO. [Edited 10/13/09 9:38am]
