The nephew of a good friend of mine is in need of a heart transplant. He is only 3 years old, soon to be 4. His birthday is November 3 and he will spend it sedated in a hospital fighting for his life, not eating cake and ice cream like a 4 year old should. It's so sad.

How do heart transplants work, do they need a 4 year old heart or can they use an older/larger heart?

I honestly don't know. I believe when it's someone so little they need a heart from another child. And when you think of that it makes it worse to think that another child would have to die in order for this little boy to live.

I'm extremely sad to say this wonderful little boy passed away on Sunday. He had bleeding into his lungs and went into cardiac arrest. The doctor's were unable to bring him back. At least now he is no longer in any pain.
