Question for those that sell on Ebay..

A auction that I had going ended yesterday, and the person that won it,paid right away through PayPal,but as I was getting ready to print out the shipping label I noticed that the address it was to be shipped to was in Brazil. When I looked at how much she had paid for shipping, and my history for shipping other iteminternationally I knew it had to be more than what she paid,so I boxed it up,and took it to the post office, and they told me that my suspicions were right,it was more,WAY more. So I sent her a message telling her all this, and what the diference was in what she still owed me to cover the shipping costs, and she sent me back telling me that she only paid that much for shipping because that is what Ebay showed the cost being, and now she want me to issue a refund, and cancel her bid.

My thought was that once the auction ended, you did'nt have that option any longer, you had to pay for what you won. Usually if it is a international bidder they will contact me asking what the shipping cost would be,but she did not.

What should I do?

Just for the record the shiping she paid was $9.64,and the actual cost that I received from the post office was $46.25

Did you have a set price for the shipping?
Did you specify in your listing that international bidders will pay more?

No I did'nt have a set price for the shipping,I did what I always do when I list an item,I weight it,and put the weight info into the rest of the listing questions.

For the shipping terms/payment, what did you put?? I'm assuming you just put the weight and it calculated the cost based on shipping within the US.

I, personally, would just give her the refund and just re-list it on e-bay. I have sold lots of stuff on e-bay and only sell within the US to avoid any problems. If I was her, I wouldn't pay any more than what was stated.

I hope this helps. wink

Oh, and did you indicate that international bidders must contact you prior to bidding? If you did not, than you can't blame her for not contacting you.

That is a big difference in shipping costs, I would want to cancel as well if I was the buyer. It is my understanding that if there is something wrong in the listing the buyers are allowed to ask for a refund, good thing is you can also get refunded for the fees ebay has already charged you. Also always specify in your listings that internartional buyers must contact you for shipping costs.

If you are using usps to ship, can the item fit in a flat rate box possibly? that could bring the cost down somewhat and maybe she will agree to that.

That's what I always do. I am going to check on the flat rate shipping costs on Monday. Thanks for the help you two. smile

Yeah, that.

It's not her fault. Take it as a learning experience and refund her the money.
It's what you make it.

Ebay's price calculator is pretty good for generating shipping costs if you type in the exact info (including box dimensions) and do it separately for both the domestic and international shipping sections in your auction. I'd just give the buyer a refund and relist the item.

I gave her a refund, and canceled the auction so that I could get my final value fees back. I have never had a problem like this before.
