Why does there have to be separate gay cruises?
Oh.. nevermind, I never thought about gay themes. I hate cruises no matter what the theme! I took one to Alaska not long ago. I was traumatized from being sea-sick. I mean every time we hit the sea, it was a bad trip. And we weren't the only ones sick either: the crew was sick.. other passengers were sick. I mean, the front desk was passing-out meds and ginger-ale was being served! Long story.. but I was STILL sea-sick when I got off the ship... It took me a few days to recover--and I usually love water.. On the worst night, glassware shifted across the cabinet.. the medicine door flew open. Visions of the Titanic ran through my head, and I kept hearing Celine Dion's singing in the back ground... We couldn't even walk down the hall, the boat was rocking so much. In fact, we just recently watched the movie Titanic again because we are a glutton for punishment. Nah.. just kidding. It just happened to be on. It was so weird because that movie took on a whole new meaning. I could really identify with those people.. I cannot even imagine what it must have been like... one end of the boat sinking.. and the other jutting up.. Another thing I didn't like about it was that it was so Las Vegas on a ship--for seven days. I like Vegas.. but more in small doses. This was too much. Plus I think... well...I mean.. we are into hiking and stuff. We were just interested in using the ship for transportation more than anything. We got a good deal.. so we went! It's not something I would normally even consider.. Anyway.. the ship experience wasn't the best but the excursions were cool. My most favorite time was when we were off that damn boat! Buzz What was billed as Italy's first gay cruise took place last month, and by all accounts it was a resounding success. There was just one small hitch: Somehow a heterosexual couple ended up on board -- and they weren't at all happy about it. News outlets in Europe this week are all atwitter over the story of the Italian couple, who now are suing the cruise line after reportedly being flummoxed by the experience. The UK's Daily Mail today reports the middle-aged husband and wife, who have not been named, said they booked the trip directly with the line and claim they were never told of the gay theme. The couple's lawyer tells the news outlet all 1,500 passengers on the ship were gay and events on board were gay-focused. My hubby and I would have laughed our asses off. It's no disaster, unless people were actually having sex next to them, they shouldn't be complaining, as if gays don't do the same thing as heterosexuals on a cruise, talk, eat, walk and the rest of the time they're making excursions in Rome and BCN

[Edited 10/16/09 13:47pm] There are more then one type of gay cruise. My friend's sister is a lesbian and has a daughter and girlfriend. If she wants to go on a cruise (which she has from time to time) a gay cruise allows them to go as a family without fear of being stared at or intimidated. It's an intimidation free environment. Then there are those gay cruises that resemble the General Discussion forum circa 2005---goddamned slutty

Then there are those gay cruises that resemble the General Discussion forum circa 2005---goddamned slutty I guess my original point was that it's too bad there has to be separate cruises for gays due to the intimidation factor. People should just mind their own damn business. I never thought about "themed" cruises though. I'm just not that familiar with cruises and don't plan to take another one anytime in the near future. For us, the draw wasn't necessarily the ship's activities more the excursions. We were interested in swimming maybe.. working-out at the gym.. But I'm not even exaggerating it was impossible to even do that. Seriously, the water was splashing out of the pool, so they had to put a net over it. We went on deck.. I swear.. the winds were so high..we got wet... and had to fight to get back inside! So... should I sue to get my money back? You can tell I was traumatized by the experience--not to mention some of the people got on my nerves. I mean.. you know there were church groups and stuff. The passengers seemed pretty conservative for the most part. They traumatized me with their LOUD political discussions and their general gaudiness. Plus, their stupidity embarrassed me: I didn't know people could be that stupid. I wasn't expecting such a tight-ass crowd, so I'm considering legal action. Seriously... you know you complete those survey forms? We said we didn't think we fit-in with a primarily conservative group--if this was representative of all cruises. I don't think they'll be inundating us with info. about future cruises. Oh, I forgot to mention this. You know how you sit next to people in the dining--even in the formal dining the sort of seat you next to people. I cannot think of one time the people we were sitting next to--when people were able to eat---didn't bring-up some snarky smack about Obama. Therefore, to add to my list of grievances, for the most part, the passengers we met traumatized and embarrassed us with their rudeness. And the sad part is these weren't older people necessarily--you know how cruise ships tend to have a lot of older people. I don't know about you guys, but I don't start political or religious discussions with people I've just met. I usually keep things pretty light. And really I don't think we look very conservative (we're into the latest Bohemian fashion trends and outdated grunge-formal night was a bit of an effort), so I really think these people were trying to either start something or determine were we stood politically. But who the hell cares on a friggin' cruise? So.. all the way around, I was traumatized.. and oppressed for my political beliefs--intimidated by those loudmouth-town-hall-types of conservative nutcases around me. Of course, I couldn't take it much more, so I had to open my mouth, then was dragged away by partner, lest a fight should break-out! Now, in recalling the experience, it's time to call an attorney! I was traumatized by the cruise culture. I didn't know. Nobody told me. There ought to be a law--or full disclosure to warn people they could be fraternizing with the enemy or just plain assholes! I mean, I'd be mortified if I found out I accidentally booked myself on somekind of 'sports' cruise complete with back-to-back pep rallys, games, and such other weird nonsense. my idea of hell would be the triathlon cruise, every meal a carbo load

I'm not sure about the TRAUMATIZED part. Unless it was the S.S.Fister or something like that. Honestly, I can totally understand the 'traumatized' part Gheys can be NASTY as hell at all-gay events. So I don't think everyone can just 'enjoy it'. I mean, most people when placed in a fish-out-of-water situation can be traumatized. I know I'd slit my wrist if it was a Hanna Montana themed cruise or something. I agree...after all, do children need to see any kind of sex on the balcony next to them? Even more odd to see gay sex when they don't even know what sex really is yet! Oh...my bad... that was my "Gay Cruise" mix up! Wake up!......Wake up!
