'Jeopardy!’ Contestant Fools Producers

I’ll take ‘Two-Timers’ for $1000, Alex!

A contestant tricked the producers of ‘Jeopardy!‘ into letting him play twice.

Jeff Kirby, who played ‘Jeopardy!’ this past Monday, previously appeared on the game show on December 8, 1999–which is against the show’s rules.

It is presumed that Kirby lied on his second application, and passed a written test and an audition to make it onto the show.

According to a statement released by Sony: “Jeopardy! has a system to make sure that people who appear on the show have not previously done so. It has worked well for 26 seasons; however, clearly, that system failed to detect that Mr. Kirby had appeared on the show in 1999.”

Kirby, a fifth-grade school teacher from Santa Maria, Ca., finished in last place this time around and collected the third-place prize of $1000. He has been declared ineligible and must forfeit his winnings.

Maybe Kirby should try out for ‘Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?‘ next time.

By the way, it wasn’t the show’s casting directors or screeners who caught him, it was eagle-eyed viewers.

And an eagle-eyed Fancast reader caught that Kirby, sporting the same goatee, is wearing the same tie 10 years later!

wow. how do you spot someone that was on 10 years ago? lol
can't you just picture someone sitting in their 'Jeopardy cave' with stacks of dvds (newly converted from vhs tapes) of every episode ever produced, pulling up past episodes on a giant computer like batman? eek

I think he should get the $1000 just for getting thru their system.

Dammit! How did he get on twice and I can't even qualify to be on once? I've tried out at least 3 or 4 times and never make it past the first round. pout I've wanted to be on Jeopardy! since high school.
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.
