24.99 + tax, which comes out to about $32. Unlimited long distance, free calls to Puerto Rico, Canada, UK, and a few Euro countries.

It's Vonage, and never had a problem with it. Our cable and internet is included in the rent, so on the cable bill we only pay the extras like a DVR (x2), Showtime, and the HD & digital tier of channels. So even the cable bill is like $30 or something ridiculously low like that.

We don't have a home phone. We ditched it about six months ago. Everyone in my family has their own cell phone, and we always have them with us, so that's how we connect.

I missed the home phone at first, and had to explain to some people that no, our phone wasn't cutoff, but now it's no big deal. And we save about $500 a year.

Plus, no telemarketing calls, ever!

I feel so cutting edge!

I just moved from my apartment which had a landline phone on which I was paying $44.95 a month for local phone service plus taxes and fees and 7 cents a minute for long distance. So my phone bills varied from $55.00 to $75.00 a month. mad But I just got a cell phone and signed up for a prepaid unlimited talk and text plan for $39.95 a month that includes long distance. biggrin It's a discount cell carrier called Page Plus, but they use the Verizon cell network. mobile call

I ditched my home phone 2 years ago. For me it's simply not necessary.

I can see if you have children that don't have cell phones it would make sense, but other than that, I don't know why anyone would have one.

That thing is a piece of shit. My friend bought one and it stopped working after a month or so. Can't reformat it, can't do anything with it. Apparently a lot of people are having the same issue, and of course there is no customer service number, so no one can get a hold of them to get anything done.

$31 and no long distance service (all my family lives in the same city I do). I used to have dial-up internet which made it $51. I kept getting $30 and $40 charges on my phone bill which I refused to pay. Each time, there was a phone number where the charges were coming from. The people at the phone number said I clicked and downloaded something (which I didn't). I asked them what site they work for and they said they own over 30,000 sites. The phone company said I may have clicked something by accident that charges your phone bill and that many sites have those type of scams. I refused to pay it and told the phone company to put a block on it. Then another time, they said I clicked into a site that had a 976 number. I refused to pay it and this time I told the phone company.....

"Listen up....I want every damn block you have out there to achieve the goal that my phone bill will NEVER under any circumstances be more than 30 damn dollars and some odd cents and 20 dollars for internet. In other words, whatever blocks I need to achieve the goal that my phone bill NEVER EVER be more than 51 dollars, unless your price goes up, I want them. Do I make my damn self clear?"

Currently, I have high speed internet for free since I bought a laptop and apparently one of the neighbors nearby must be set up to where I can bleed off of their's (I don't know how that shit works)....but I don't know how long that may last or how long I plan to stay at my current residence. If I move, I won't be able to afford cable TV, let alone internet.

When you say "high speed", is it through the phone line? Is it fast enough to watch youtube videos? Is the $50.91 for both phone and high speed internet a temporary price that will go up later? If that's regular price, I might could afford that.

A lot of those "live agents" are bots programmed to answer questions based on keywords in your question/comment/statement.

We've tried this MagicJack on FIVE different computers, PC and Mac, and we can't do a thing with it. It USED to work for a hot minute, but now it's useless.

Yes it's through the phone line, they give you filters to put on all your phone jacks so that you can still receive calls when you are on the internet. I have DSL,and yes I can watch YouTube videos. The $50.91 is for both the phone, and the internet, and that what I owe this month,a couple of months ago it was $43.00. smile

Nothing- I have 2 cell phones on my plan( my moms, I pay for, and mine)

Daughter has her on phone on her fathers plan. In all reality its only another bill taking more money so why even have one IMHO.

Edited to add: I used to have a home line phone when I had a sitter about 5-6 years ago for my daughter who wasnt old enough to be alone yet but now she is 14 and can stay on her own( it was that I had it disconnected cause I could not pay I just didnt see the need for it when we all have cell phones now)
