Computer Advice - Linux So I have a newer laptop, and I'm considering running Linux on the other one, just to give it a go. I've tried Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Slackware and one other, or two.
I became very frustrated with it the last time I gave it a go (which was about 2006 or 2007). I'm usually pretty good with catching onto things, and learning them on my own, but I was SO beyond the point of wanting to throw it out the window last time. People were telling me to run command lines in the Terminal and writing shit that I just had NO clue about. Sure it's easy to someone who knows WTF they're doing. I, however, did not. I do remember getting some apps installed through the library vault thingy. I guess I just need something that is easier to be able to run, install the things I need or want. I forget if I ever got a real internet connection or not. I know at one point I couldn't connect to save my life. (That had to be earlier on of course.) So....any people that are Linux saavy that can point me. Is Ubuntu a decent distro still? I am open to learn it, but don't need the frustration like I had last time. (Frankly, I'd like to hack OS X onto that laptop. It could take it. It's a Dell Latitude D600 that I'll be using for this.)

SUSE Linux: http://www.novell.com/products/desktop/
They have a free evaluation. Novell bought them out a few years back and beefed up their product offerings. It's a very mature Linux offering and feels more 'polished' than most Linux solutions. Novell does a very good job at not requiring you to be a geek to use an OS. I love Novel software actually. I'd love to see them stage a mac-like comeback, but don't think it'll happen.

I can't even navigate that site! Gone are the days of a simple "Download Here" link. haha I don't want to pay for Linux, esp since I have no idea about it.
