Monique's new show on BET

Did anyone catch this mess of a show? I really hope it gets better. The mess I saw last night was utter garbage. They didn't plan anything out. Nothing but Monique screaming and hollering at the audience and lots of "acting ig-nant". BET should be ashamed of themselves for allowing such garbage on television.

I agree. BET is really starting to tarnish their fine, outstanding, reputation for quality programming with Monique's show.

Maybe I was expecting it to get better. Especially since she has done television and radio before. I have heard her do radio interviews that were very entertaining and personable. I was hoping she would bring some of that to her talk show.

I wouldn't call her a phony. She's still a big girl. Nothing skinny about here. She said in interviews that she did it for her health and I can totally understand that. I think her doctors told her she had some health issues that encouraged her to drop a few pounds.

stfu Ummmm, no it ain't. She probably lost 25% of her body weight. That's a huge amount of weight and she should be proud of herself.

I know someone that has interviewed her a few times and she said the same thing. Not good, considering she kept on saying how good God was.

In all sincerity...I think people can scream about "skinny bitches" until the cows come home, but the reality that eventually hits many women of color is that obesity can fuck up your blood pressure, possibly give you Type 2 diabetes, and be a contributing factor to heart attacks, stroke, and heart disease. There are days when a person is going to be in their doctor's office, and their vitals and stats will be run down to them and they will need to make a life altering decision: be cute and plump for today, or drop 50 so you can live long and live strong. Far as I can see, there shouldn't even be a question there ...and unfortunately for "the act", the whole concept of skinny bitches might have to be revisited and revised so that a woman can make it to 65 without getting her legs amputated. Hell, I'm dealing with a 67 year old friend now whowouldn't drop when they had the chance, still won't put the fatback down, and getting pieces of toes cut off every damn week as we speak...

...so I say to hell with the signature comedy schtick and what she felt about fat vs.skinny before: if it's going to be something that enables her to be healthy, then drop 50 more if she needs to... she has small children that need a mother with a heart that works, tumorless breasts intact, and legs attached to her knees. Who gives a damn what we think bored2

I can't stand her ass, but dropping that kinda weight is a great accomplishment.
The same folks talking shit now would do so if she hadn't tried to lose weight and was tossing back doughnuts by the dozen. Yet they still talking shit at her efforts to get healthier. finger

I heard on the radio this morning that she may not even be in the running for any of the major awards because Tyler and Oprah are not happy with the way she's demanding more money for her performance. I'll do a search and see can I find a story.

Is Mo'Nique ruining her Oscar chances with diva antics?

First, Mo'Nique didn't show up at the Toronto International Film Festival to promote "Precious." Rumors ran amok that she snubbed the debut because Lionsgate wouldn't pay a $100,000 appearance fee plus fly her staff first class. Then her publicist promised Mo'Nique would attend the premiere of "Precious" at the New York Film Festival this past weekend, but again she was a no-show. Roger Friedman of Hollywood Reporter's Showbiz 411 reports that her publicist just quit "after trying to explain why Mo’Nique wasn’t coming."

Mo'nique precious

A source tells the New York Daily News, "Mo'Nique said she signed on to do this film for a small amount of money. She said she didn't care about 'no Oscar' — all that mattered was 'those Benjamins!' Because Oprah and Tyler Perry are backing the film, she feels as though there should be a budget to pay for her promotional duties."

"Precious" is widely considered to be a top contender for best picture, director, screenplay, lead actress (Gabby Sidibe) and supporting actress (Mo'Nique and Mariah Carey).

"The star's attitude is starting to work against her," Daily News column Gatecrasher reports. "Winfrey and Tyler have reportedly instructed Lionsgate to put their promotional machine behind fellow stars Mariah Carey and Gabby Sidibe for the Oscar race. Those two are adept at playing the game; both turned up in New York and Toronto to push the film for free (although Carey was 30 minutes late to Saturday's Alice Tully Hall premiere and entered to boos from the audience in response to her tardiness)."

In fairness to Mo'Nique, she's quite busy right now with the debut of her late-night talk show on BET network at 11 tonight. Some of our forum posters believe these reports are rumors meant to derail her TV premiere by jealous rivals, and they note that Mo'Nique recently did PR for "Precious" on the "Today" show, "The Rachael Ray Show" and BET's "106th and Park."
