this should serve as a reminder that it hasn't been that long since she was killed.

I've had some very unpleasant dreams since reading the Diary, but I'm not sorry I did.

And look how nice the neighborhood was! We tend to think of these things as being so far removed from us, but it happened to them, real people, and it could always happen again...to anyone!

A great documentary is "Anne Frank remembered" by Jon Blair. Unfortunately I couldn't find the complete documentary but the last part is on youtube.

Here is part 1:

It is impossible to imagine what it was like in those concentration camps.

I actually went to the Anne Frank house before I'd read the book, and even with the incomplete picture of the events I had in my mind then, being where it all took place was deeply unsettling.

I felt awkward at the "souvenier shop". The sales person looked at me and knew I was going through it. She was sweet.

I didn't really feel it would be appropriate to linger in a store after the house, so I left pretty quickly. Didn't get much of a feel for the shop. shrug

Overall in that building is a certain sombre, respectful quiet, like in a mausoleum.

yeah, look how happy everyone was, sure everything would work itself out in the end, they didn't take all that stuff too seriously until they were forced to wear their star patches and close down their businesses and… cry
