I got let go (fired) today So I came in for a normal day of work today and something just wasn't right in the air. I work at a shoe boutique called Marmi at the mall. It's an upscale shoe store for older women. Well, i came in and I notice that there is an unknown man working at the store with us. I knew that the store manager was going out of town on saturday but she said she would be working on friday. I ask where Joan (store manager) is and I was told that she got fired. I was totally shocked because she's a great salesperson plus she's worked for the company for awhile. To be honest, she was somewhat in cahoots with corporate which even shocked me even more that she was fired. She's sold shoes for 40 years. Even though, I had my moments with her...she was like a mother figure to me. So I come in, my name is on the board with my goal for the day. Then the guy says that he needs to talk to me in the back and tells me about Joan being terminated then tells me that they are letting me go because they don't need part time people anymore. I wasn't exactly convinced that was the case so I asked if they had more to do with it. I can't remember if I mentioned or He mentioned job performance, I got written up because of that due to low sales/attitude with the manager that happened last week. I got mad at her because she took a customer i was waiting on underneath my nose. But most of the business comes in the morning and I work the nights. Other sales associate who is full time hasn't been doing well either and there have been a lot of times where my numbers per hour and sales have been higher than her. I've had a great month..business has been wishy washy tho. Some weekends have been great for me and some not so good.
I'm still shocked that my store manager was fired but yet again, at times she wasn't a team player. We always take turns waiting on customers....she didn't believe in that. One time, a customer asked for Dennis(sales associate) and she convinced that lady to let her wait on her...while the lady bought $800 worth of shoes. Basically stole the sale underneath his nose! Maybe she got fired because she wasn't being a team player, just trying to save her own ass. Corporate came last week and it didn't go over well. I am just really upset, i've never been fired let alone written up before. My mom was sympathic and my dad, well he's bipolar so he doesn't seem to get anything. I still have another job...working in a nightclub. However, I took a break for that because I was working 12-13 hour days with the shoe store and the nightclub. I'm supposed to be on call in a couple of weeks then starting up with coat check November 15. I have a couple checks coming in (nightclub, shoe store, mj viago ticket difference refund, mail in rebate for phone) so I will have 4500 in the bank. No payments except for a cell phone bill and rent my parents charge me (only like 200 something a month). so i have plenty of money....no need to really worry right now. I really liked working there even though I wasn't that great at selling. I worked with 3 other people including the manager and we all got along great. The store manager even offered for me to stay with her when I was having trouble with my family. I always gave Sandra(other sales associate) a ride home and we would always be chatting away. That was my gurl. I'm 23 year old college graduate working a shitty part time job. I graduated in 4.5 years and went to the one of the top universities for my major. I worked my ass off to get a degree. And I still don't have a career job. I applied to 20 part time jobs and had 6 interviews and got 2 jobs out of that. I've applied to even more career jobs. This year has been a nightmare for me...MJ died, living at home with parents after living on my own since i was 18, family trouble, job trouble. I just feel completely helpless and hopeless. I am sorry this awful thing happened to you. Please think positive. You are young and educated. You have a home with loved ones around you. You still have part time employment. I pray something fabulous and even better comes your way very soon.

I feel bad for you. It appears to me that since they fired your store manager as well as you, the company was laying off a bunch of people to cut costs. If they were honest about it, they should have just told you that instead of making up some excuse to write you up and use that as a reason for your termination.
But you're not the only one struggling. I haven't been able to find a permanent career position in the last two years. I have been working as a temp off and on, and it's been frustrating. But at least you have something to fall back on. But don't give up. Keep looking for that career position you want, and eventually you'll find it.

I feel your pain.
I think I am about to get fired too, but they are playing games and shit. They fired someone this week and accused her of theft... and the alleged "theft" I was involved with. This alleged "theft" happened with many witnesses so obviously I must really suck at theft if everyone saw me do it. Today I about had a conniption as a staff member was rude and insubordinate to me, and highly frustrated because people again were not doing simple portions of their jobs, thereby overloading me to do their portion with my own overloaded job portion. I had to go to my boss and my manager and explained my frustration....again...and after the insubordinate bitch gave me attitude I flat out told my boss I was so irate that if I had to deal with her anymore I was going to get very ugly and I was trying to stay professional but omigod I was about to bring the Brooklyn side out! I think she's about to get fired too Anyway it is really sad to get fired but I have also realized in life people have their own little agendas, and a lot of people are just straight evilness. You have to just keep on surviving and cya and try to maintain in this world. best of luck to you!

I work with animals. It's not the happy job everyone thinks it is. And I really can be a bitch, but I'm a type A, trying to be perfectionist, type, and it's just become really overwhelming with drama and bullshit and people trying to gossip and get me fired. And then dealing with some real ignorant people.
And I do have a temper and it's hard to continue to stifle it day in, day out.

hey, it's not like it's so hard to come in, do your job, and go home with no drama involved....but it seems if you are a hard working, intelligent, conscientious type, people really want to just fuck with you.
but yet they will persist with dealing with some serious retards because they can "control" those types and get their ass kissed. ...I'm just highly sick of dealing with bullshit.

what I really hate most about my job is that we work like damn dogs, and go-go-go-go...and you would think there could be some appreciation....and there never is. But let something go wrong and folk are up in your ass for some petty shit. I can't even tell the stupid shit I have been "written" up for. It's like "are you just writing this so you can convince yourself firing me is good" because I know I am not perfect but I also know what I do. I do my job and do it well and I don't kiss ass or expect mine to be kissed. I would love to just find good people to work with. In fact most of the people I work with are cool, but just the few bitches that call themselves snitches and running story just kill it. Especially since they are too busy act the gossipy bitch to do their job properly. That is what has me irate. I don't care if you hate me, fear me, love me...either way do your fucking job! It would be nice to be able to communicate honestly and have laughs while we worked....but when I see bitches gossiping while I am asking for my reports I start to get very frustrated and irate. When I get to irate, it's a wrap.
Right now y'all I am still shaking from my rage. I will probably have to take a bubble bath soon and try to destress. My feet are swole. My shoulder are super tense. I'm starving because I work so hard I barely eat. My head is pounding! I even started smoking again It's not so bad but it's bad. I would miss a lot of people if I were fired, but the atmosphere is feeling very toxic to me with the cliques and drama The worse part is I work 4 days a week about 32-38 hr a week and that was my fulltime , well now they want to call me part time and take about 1/4 of my pay. When you fuck with my money I get beyond irate. And also to be insulted and accused of being slow at my job, when I run circles around everyone else. y'all need to prayer for me because I'm scheduled for the "talk" (y'all know about the talk!) and I don't want to be fired....but I don't think I will be all meek and taking anyone's shit. It may get ugly.

Got let go from temp assignment (first job out of college in 1999) with AIG in Atlanta 4 days before Christmas. It is surreal really: anger, humiliation, and confusion all mess with your head and confidence. Even with my full time job as a project manager now, we were faced with the prospect of a)having our branch close b) taking a 20% pay cut. We were forced to take the pay cut, but I guess it worked out for the better. There are rumblings that we may fold, but luckily I have my own gig on the side. You're still young and these are some of the lumps we take. I hate when coworkers that you're close with get fired. You can't help but feel for them. "Old man's gotta be the old man. I was only supposed to be temporary anyway because one of the associates that worked there had a huge stroke but now he can't work anymore and is on disability. She didn't deserve to get fired at all. I understand that I was part time and since me and the other lady weren't doing some well then either one of us would of gone...that makes sense but i'm just in total shock about her.

Sorry to hear this happened to you.
I, too, am young, educated, able bodied, and experienced, and after searching for 6 months I found a job.....selling shirts. I'm grateful for the work, but it's disheartening to have put in all the time and effort -not to mention money -into getting an education and having it be effectively useless. I hope things get better for you quickly. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

This is why I like the laws in England - the employers have to go through processes before letting you go. The lady who had worked for 40 years would have had a strong case to take to an employment tribunal - the employer would have also had to take into account her pension, age and how many years she had worked for them.
Also even part-time workers have rights and you cannot be fired on the spot. Grievance/disciplinary meetings have to be raised before that can happen. I know that sometimes people see England as a soft spot - but sometimes I think the laws in England are right and protect the workers. "I may not agree with what you say but I'll fight for your right to say it"
