Mike Principe, the managing director for the BEST agency that represents Vick, announced the deal on stage at a forum run by SportsBusiness Journal. He would not reveal details about the deal. "Mike has had a great relationship with Nike and is excited to be part of the Nike team again," Vick's personal agent, Joel Segal, told SBJ. Segal told the paper Nike and Vick had agreed not to discuss terms of the deal. Vick will wear Nike clothing and use its equipment as part of the deal. The quarterback "has always been a fan of the brand and looks forward to the relationship," Segal told SBJ. Nike and Vick had an endorsement contract when he played for the Falcons before his conviction. But the company dropped Vick after his guilty plea, which led to him serving a 20-month sentence. Vick, now with the Eagles, played in his first regular-season game since 2006 on Sunday. Nike may have to endure complaints from animal activists angry with their alliance with Vick. But protesters have been minimal outside Eagles games thus far and Vick, who's working with the Humane Society of the United States, has said he wants to make amends for his participation in dogfighting.-- Sean Leahy | |
