lol You know what? Speaking of Monique if she wins, she will be running up on that stage like Bigfoot.

Be prepared to hear her say this:

"That's right baby!" - 20 times before taking her next breath

"Hallelujah, Sweet Jesus!" - 35 times

Oh Honey, Oh Baby, Baby, Babaaaaayyyyy!!!- 150 times

"What? What?" - 275 times

In between all of this Monique will be prancing back and forth and doing a chu'ch dance like she got the holy ghost. Then she will give 5,000 thank you's to God, her husband and children, in which she will give them a shout out and say "I love you baby", before giving her actual speech.

But, by that time, the music for her to get the hell off the stage will start to play before she finally get a chance to give her speech..... eek ...but lo and behold, if that happens, prepare for Monique to take off her shoes, hold her right hand up in the air and say "Oh no, Oh no, you will let me give my speech dammit!! lol

I have a ticket to a late show because four earlier ones are sold out already here in Chicago. My daughter faked me out so I'm going alone which is best because I don't want to cry around her. I am really excited to see this movie.

In that pic, Lenny looks like a spitting image of my brother-in-law. I have to say, you better bring a box of kleenex with you if go to see this movie, because there is no way tears won't fall.

Hubby will NOT go with me, I already know. This will have to be at home and without him, cause I know he won't want to see something this emotional.

This looks good. I appreciate that many big african american name are involved. It seems they're more involved to support the premise and african american films in general. I doubt the film has a blockbuster budget, meaning they didn't get big check, emphasizing their support. More films like this need to get made that don't include all that buffoonery that present in too many african american films. i.e the wayne's bro's, earlier c. rock films and a lot of T Perry's work. Black people are not "clowns" but most of what white america see's is us behaving like "clowns". This is refreshing and seems to address important topics.

all that said... when I heard Mariah ask "everyone's good at something, what are you good at?"...the first thing I thought of is "I can make a MEAN pot o' red beans!"

Truly heartbreaking movie but the best I've seen in a very long time. Mo Nique is a shoo in for an Oscar nomination.

I am glad that this movie focuses on real issues, the type issues many are afraid to talk about in the open. I look forward to seeing this movie.

I'm taking a box of these with me. My sis and I decided to see this movie together this week, and she is the type that gets real emotional watching movies like this. She told me she read the book a while back and said the details were so graphic, she hid the book from her daughters. So I guess we will both watch the movie and cry together.

It's alright bboy, the movie is obviously a tear jerker touching on some very sensitive, emotional and deep issues. If you don't mind sharing, what type of questions were asked during the Q &A?

clapping i totally agree with you i just saw this movie this morning and this film touches on some very serious issues and i am also glad that they are exposing this in the limelight i think this film will give people who are really going through this hope help support and comfort into letting them know that they are not alone in their sitution and to go talk to someone they trust about their sitution and to put up a good fight against their abuser and not take the BS that some of these parents be putting their children through nod

i thought it was great film and everybody played their part well nod

I saw Precious this past Saturday and having read the book some 10 years ago I was skeptical that anybody could pull off making this movie. The book touched me deeply but I have to say the movie shook me to the core. I was in such rapt attention at what was unfolding onscreen that I did not realize I was crying until the woman next to me handed me a Kleenex. At one point a couple in front of me walked out in tears with comments that they've had enough. It was the strangest movie-going experience of my life: a long, echoing sob could be heard throughout the theatre. Not only was it sad and depressing but it was actually quite scary and horrific. Honestly. I can't stop thinking about it. I get emotional just thinking about it. The biggest lesson for me is that I realized I'm part of the problem. How many times have I disregarded someone just because they were too fat? too ugly? too stupid? not cool enough? It seemed like every cruelty I've ever done to someone paraded in my soul all weekend long. Not to imply that I'm a cold asshole (those who know me can attest to that) but I'm no angel either and yet I thought how many of us just ignore these types of people. Maybe it's just me. I don't know.

As for the performances? What can I say. Monique will hands down get an Oscar nod and probably take it home. I've never seen anything like it. Gabourey Sidibe will steal your heart. Paula Patton is my new favorite actress, who is this gorgeous woman? And Mariah? Well, I'm no fan of her pop music, but I have to admit that her performance was brilliant. The pain she expressed with her face alone was perfection.

Alas, go see this movie but I suggest you go to the early showing.

I'm suppose to go see it this week with my sister. I will be prepared with the kleenex and all. I'm also glad abuse/incest situation is being brought to light on film. It's a taboo subject many don't discuss in the open, but way too many children are being hurt by this, so the stories need to be told.

It's in limited release. In NY and LA only, I think. I saw it in L.A. After the screening some reps from the studio were trying to get men on camera to appeal to a wider audience. They're trying to figure out how to market the film. I think it will open in more theaters in the coming weeks.

Oh and the dedication at the end of the film was alarming and beautiful and send the waterworks down again. I was so moved by it all that my friend asked me later if there had been abuse in my family. No. I told him. But this movie is about more that child abuse I thought. So much more.

There is abuse in my family but I identified more with Precious's sense of being unloved. That scene hurt me to my core and fucked me up for the rest of the day.

Yes. Same here. When my friend asked me that question I also thought, well, is neglect a type of abuse? But, I know what you mean. OMG. **spoiler alert** Remember this: "I feel here. I feel here." That was when I lost it the first time.
