Why did THIS become world news (concerning goth culture)?

I read about this a few days ago. But this is the first and only time I've had the opportunity to see the picture for myself.

I think the 'Goth Culture' comments are a sidebar in this.

The 'news' behind this photo-opt is that in Spain, the children of political figures are not allowed to be photographed or displayed in public to protect their identity and privacy.
When the Spanish PM's daughters were displayed, they were for the first time in their lives, and unlike any other children of Spanish political figures, thrown into the spotlight--which can be quite vicious.

So the hoopla is over the displaying of their image at all moreso than how 'goth' they may look.

It's hard for American get wrap our head around this because we so frequently attack and pray on the children of political figures (Chelsea Clinton, several of of the Bush girls, etc.).

Well, then why have them in a photo op at all? This is not a paparazzi pic that they can't control. It woulda been real simple to just not allow them to pose in the pic. So I blame the parents. shrug

Yeah, I know. biggrin I'm just saying that I didn't understand why the parents allowed them to pose in an official picture yet wanted the WH photographer to blur out their faces. nuts lol

"Meanwhile, the e-mail inboxes of the Spanish people filled, as they would in the United States, with doctored versions of the photo showing the teenage girls as members of the Addams Family, the metal band KISS, and as Orcs from J. R. R. Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy."
