When It's Over.....Friendship

Sometimes a friendship comes to an end because the two people have "grown apart", other times it's due to things done/not done: what is your basis for ending a friendship? Or should we hold onto them no matter what?

I like the way you put that, bad: "the door may remain open (as in, you wouldn't shut them out entirely) but the screen will be locked (the final barrier to entering your home/your most personal space, will be locked).

Nice symbolism smile

Betrayal of my trust could end a friendship with me. Example: telling someone else personal information about me that a "friend" knows I don't want told. Putting my business out in the street induces my wrath. It may be a bit different if the friend doesn't know they've given info that other people usually don't have a problem giving out, but there are those things that are obviously private, and those things that I make sure the friend knows are PRIVATE.

Lying obviously kills a friendship too.

I think a Friend is the Hardest thing too truly have.a Real Friend.I think the only things that wreck it: are saying My Biz out&about,&basically trying too do Harm were Fists might start flying.but I Learned a Lesson from my Grandmother a long time ago: not everybody is your Friend.there are people you Associate with&then there are your Friends I always know the difference.

Why do you say it was her boyfriend who ended your friendship? And did you sleep with him after you ended the friendship? Were they still dating? (Inquiring Minds Want to Know! wink )

I think it all depends on what exactly the betrayal of trust was, or what exactly the lie was. I can think of some minor examples that wouldn't kill it, but definitely would strain it to the point that I couldn't trust the friend 100% anymore with just any information. I don't just discard people who I consider friends, it has to be something major.

Well, heh.

Friendships end pretty dern easy, it seems in some instances.

Generally, I just grow apart from mine. However, there are the occasional instances the latter thing you mention...things done/not done applies for. smile

But oh well. I really can't be arsed.

THERE IN LIES THE ISSUE...
in friendship, don't you tend to just overlook
alot of things as just being 'a pettie trait'
and don't the REALLY BIG missunderstandings even fall

Interesting topic! I have had to end a friendship before. It is not an easy thing to do. I'm pretty loyal to my friends. However, there was a time when I needed to end a friendship in order to grow. My former friend Arwen had continued to hurt me (intentionally perhaps) for a year and a half over a tumultuous romance we once had. It tore me apart, but I knew that I needed to end things. I've been much happier as a result. Since then, I have emailed her and told her that she was a blessing my life and that I was thankful that God had thrown us together, because it helped me learn and grow a great deal.

I'd say that in general, I would only end a friendship if I felt it stunted my growth as a person and was a continual source of stress and hurt for a long time.

And this in turn makes me wonder: what would I end a friendship over, if this friend of mine did something horrible to someone else, not necessarily to me? Like, would I still consider my friend a "friend" if he raped and murdered someone?

Sure, a really big misunderstanding can happen to any set of friends for various minor reasons. But if I already know about petty traits I don't do anything to help that trait come to the surface. If that trait comes out, it won't have anything to do with ME giving my private information because I won't voluntarily give it.

after a time, don't even the most vile act

The most vile act? shake No. The word "vile" connotes major damage, BAD MAN.

But, being a friend comes easily to me. I've never had to directly end a friendship.
