Any ipod geeks out there?

A friend of mine gave me an ipod loaded with music...is there a way I can get it onto my computer without it erasing everything on the ipod?

I heard there was a free program called senuti ("itunes" backwards) that did that, but I haven't used it.

Needless to say you've already downloaded iTunes, right? If you haven't download iTunes and make sure you have the lastest version 9.0.1 or something. Plug in your iPod and allow it to synchronize. In iTunes over to you left (blue background) you'll see icons for, music, movies, podcast, iTunes Store, Purshased etc, etc.... you should also see a little iPod icon saying you're connected.

Go > File > scroll down till you see > "Transfer Purchases from iPod". Click and your music should transfer over to iTunes that is if your friend bought all or some of your via iTunes. If they didn't use this software. iDump.

iDump - http://www.softpedia.com/...23799.html

Video - http://www.youtube.com/wa...re=related
Here the instructions -

There is a way to download you music to from your iPod to iTunes (and I'm sure others will tell you how) but it seems involved to me and I don't have that type time nor the patience for it so I use iDump. Very easy to use one, two, three finish.

You are welcome.

Take you time, video will walk you through it.... all it's doing is copying your music via your iPod hardrive, you can't fuck it up unless, your one of those one out of 3 billion who find a way. razz biggrin

Are you sure about that?

Unless this is some new feature of Version 9.0.1, iTunes WILL delete all music
from an iPod that isn't already present on the computer's iTunes library if
it's allowed to synchronize.

This was a deliberate move by Apple to stop people doing the very thing you're
attempting. i.e. effectively 'file share' music from one person's PC/Mac to
another via an iPod.

Completely true. That's why I always have "Manually manage music" checked because syncing can lead to some problems down the line if you're not careful. Transfer of songs in iTunes is always from iTunes --> iPod and never iPod --> iTunes, no matter the model or version. If you have an iPod classic there is a workaround where you can copy the music straight from the device. The filenames will be these 4/5 letter codes, but there's software to rename them properly.

I've heard good things about Senuti as well.
Kinda strange, kinda awesome.

Thanks Boris. I didn't make myself clear. at all. I was thinking/speaking of your iPod/iTouch/ iPhone have to synch when you connect your iPod/Touch/Phone to iTunes. So true, two options Sync or Manually controlling your stuff on your iPod/iTouch/iPhone. I thinking and assuming "Manually managaing your music" only. smile I was about to mess someone up and I was razzing CarrieLee.

Is it easy to use? I'm a little challenged in the 'tech' department.
